Hi girls, i have been working in a small highstreet salon for nearly 3 years, i do have a good clietele but i havent had a hugh amount of training! i have always found waxing a bit of a downfall, i suppose because i have only really been shown the basics at college and havent had much futher training! the main area i struggle with is bikini waxing! i use cream wax and i feel like im not doing the best job i can do! i find it tricky 2 suppost the skin before i remove the strip! sometimes it looks like i might have torn the skin! i think this is because im not sure where to support to skin so im not holding it tight enough!
Has anybody ever had that happen to them if so how do u stop it from happening? its really starting to stress me out! any tips would be really really helpful!

I get the client to help support the skin on bikini and upper thighs and I then only need to do an extra stretch to check they are pulling tight enough. It really reduces the pain and gives them a distraction.

Hey thanks for that, i do try and get my clients to support but find that even when they do sometimes it still tears the skin? do u use strip wax? i have been trying to stretch the skin underneath the strip when i remove, does that make sense? how do u support the skin in this area?

I get them to hold either side of the strip and I hold below. Are you pulling the strip along the skin rather than up and using a small amount of oil (or talc if the client is sweaty) under the strip wax? Also are you applying the wax in a very thin layer?

I use strip wax for everything but others prefer to use Hot wax on bikini and underarm.

Hi there

OMG i used to hate bikini waxing when I started out as a beautician 6 years ago its one of the most nerve racking of the waxing when you first learn how to do it practise practise practise. and breathe lol

I also use strip wax, I cleanse the area first, then use oil I have the client on the bed with one leg straight and the other with the foot touching the knee, i apply the wax then I ask the client to hold there inner thigh at the top and I do the same just below.... if the underneath is being waxed I get the client to put the leg in the air ( i know you will be laughing ) but i tell you this really helps,,, clients have to do this when getting a brazilian or hollywood so why not for a perfect bikini lol...

hope this helps and keep waxing i love it now

Hi Chloe, perhaps you are trying to wax too large an area in one go,try doing smaller sections and you may find this is easier for you to support. As mentioned get the client to hold skin tight and support yourself.Explaining how/where to hold is difficult as this will depend on where you are waxing,i.e upper part of bikini or lower.

Is it a burn or a tear or is it a bruise?Im confused how you are tearing the skin??

I do use a thin layer of wax, well i try to i always keep a eye on the tempt of the wax to make sure its not to thick! i find when i pull my strip off the skin that i can see almost like peeling skin from where the wax has taken it off!
when i do the top of the bikini i normaly support the skin underneath the strip, so if this makes sense i put my wax on downwards with the direction of the hair growth, smooth my strip down then stretch the skin underneath the wax strip and pull my strip off in the oppersite direction of the hair growth.
For underneath on bikini if the hair is growing down i put my put wax on then just kind of stretch the skin outwards slightly and pull the strip off! im doing something wrong if im tearing the skin? i sometimes might see a shiny patch of skin aswell does that mean skin has been taken off? i do sometimes use talc if they are hot, should i always use it? have never used oil i didnt think the wax would grip the hairs aswell?
sorry to keep asked so many questions

I always stretch form above and when i do top of bikini i go from one side to the middle then other side to the middle pulling skin towards hips.I always have them lying flat.when i do down the sides i pull skin upwards when putting on and taking off.

When i do underneath i do it with them lying on their backs and get them to draw their leg up towards their chest.
The ligament bit is the worst area for bruising and i do this with straight legs but apart and again pull the skin up.I never wax the ligament area with them in the frog position as it then sticks out.You want to get everything as tight and as flat as possible and just work in smaller sections.

Also put your wax on and take it off immediately.I use oil or talc depending on how sweaty they are but with both its minimal amounts.

This info is for basic waxing not intimate and for the cream wax you are using.

I also like to use hot wax for bikini and underarms as some clients with hair all over the place do prefer it,though not all and i do believe when you know your wax and have a good technique you can do a great job with strip and obviously if you are employed in a salon you have to use what they give you.

Hi again,
Just wondering if anyone can help me again? its hard to ask questions because i need to be shown really!I think i must be really bad at bikini waxing! i dont seen 2 ever briuse people just pull the skin off, i think it has happened to me once or twice before!
i did a ladie today and im sure some of her skin got ripped off with the wax! i could see like a line of torn skin, i find it happens mostly on the sides of bikini line! i always support the skin underneath where i pull off, so i pull the skin taut in the oppersite direction to the way the hairs grow if that makes sense? im thinking maybe im not pulling the skin tight enough?

I think, as a trainee myself, you should take some more training in waxing so as not to cause these clients any more discomfort! Are these clients returning as to be honest, i wouldnt be if it kept happening. Its really not worth getting a bad reputation for in my opinion, not when theres such great training available. Not only that but with the extra training you could get bags more confidence and maybe people will begin coming to you for your waxing skills specifically . Good luck getting it sorted!
