I use to have spots on my checks when I became a teenager and tried every single product out there on the chemist shelf and salon skin care and nothing worked instead some use dry my skin up terrible and stripped my skin. Until 1day I went to the dermatologist and was put on roaccutane for 4months and cleared everything up! Only thing I suffered with as I felt so upset and my lips were like sandpaper but now I look back and wished I went on them in the first place as I've spent so much on products that didn't work.
Has anybody ever cleared acne up with a skin care product?

in the salon i used to work in they had a skin care range called Priori. A young lad came in with severe acne and my boss gave him monthly facials using the priori range and something called Omnilux light therapy. After 6 facials his skin was practically clear. This was using the skin care products at home as well.
This is the only case of severe acne i have really seen but was massively impressed with the results. My previous boss has been in the business for over 20 years and specialized in facials.

Really? Wow I'm surprised but it must have cost £££ to have it cleared up I've had facials and everything else and tbh my acne wasn't that bad just a few on the cheeks and that was it but they would not go away so had to go on medication

I was watching embarrassing bodies other night and saw a guy with acne on his back similar to the gent in the pic and had to have medication and laser for a few months.acne isn't nice at all I mean it can affect somebody's self esteem and confidence. I wasn't to bad just annoyed of them being there but really lucky it wasn't as bad as some poor Folks who have it worser.

It is unfortunate that people have to deal with any amount of acne :( It is even worse that people have to feel crappy because others don't understand the condition..tsk tsk...
Never had to deal with major skin issues, have been blessed and just using my skin care religiously keeps my skin in great condition.
I do believe that a good range can help as long as you use it. But the underlying condition will always be there. Most cases I have dealt with have been put on Accutane, very harsh and strong but it does change that persons sebacious glands on a deeper level, some specialists believe it changes the dna of that gland to make it stop overproducing. That is why the results from Accutane are long lasting

Yes it cost around £400 for the course of facials and then extra for the products to use at home but once he got hos skin under control he didn't need his facials anywhere near as much. In fact he then only had them once every 8-10 weeks I believe. He was 17 and his confidence changed dramatically it was so lovely to see. Makes the job so much more worthwhile :) xx

It's horrible when it gets people to a stage is where some just can't go out or cover themselves up as they would feel low. But some products out there really do strip peoples skin I mean I don't wanna be mentioning brand names but so many nasty chemicals in them. I have to use lavera and that's it. just a simple face wash and use just a little bit of shaving foam as it's very sensitive and just put some coconut oil on as a moisturizer.

It's brilliant that you can do that and the self esteem must up the roof for that lad :)

One thing I would suggest is to stop using a shaving foam. I'm imagining that it's an otc product? You could actually use your coconut oil instead.
It's only a little change but will help to calm your skin.

I must say I believe Environ have it sussed in my opinion, you need to feed the skin from within with specially formulated vitamins and ingredients, combine this with a result driven range of products that are used topically and the results are there to be seen. The smoothing of the acne scaring is quite amazing. I may be bias towards these products as I've seen the results they achieve, if they didn't I wouldn't waste my time promoting them. Hormonal acne is very difficult to treat if using topical products only.

Thank you I'll give it try

I was on roaccutane for 5 months after 3 years of begging to be put on it after finding nothing worked, I spent thousands on skincare products, professional specialist facials, make up and nothing would rid me of it or cover it up, I'm left with horrible pitted scarring from the acne which I believe I wouldn't have if they'd put me on the roaccutane when I first asked.
So glad I went on it, side effects sucked but was worth it on the long run. For the price of a prescription compared with what I paid for, for facials & skin care products is staggering! I do believe facials will help some people with acne but not all of them. My friend acne cleared up after several facials but it didn't do anything for mine. You have a lovely glow after being on the treatment very brave of you to show us well done!

My 16 year old has acne, it's not so severe, he has oxytetracycline and duac gel, and a rigorous cleansing routine, but they have not completely gone, although it's improved, and I wondered if there was something better, so this thread is really useful information.

Is the oxytetracycline tablets? I'm on some antibiotics and a cream, I'm trying to find a suitable HRT but two have brought me out in acne!
Not sure what's best for the scaring to, not as bad as others but still knocks my confidence xx

I have to agree with Virtues. I have had some amazing results with acneic clients. Home skincare and a course of treatments alongside the kindest make up and supplements to support it have helped me to help a lot of clients. Some have decided they really don't want to go down the accutane route as the side effects can be extreme - mood swings, extremely dry skin, erection problems, suicidal tendencies being amongst the worst. I don't doubt the efficacy of it but if you suffer from extreme side effects it can be far more damaging than acne and the damage can last a lot longer than taking the medication.
Unfortunately money clearly plays a big part. From the docs it can be cheap or free. From me it will obviously be a lot more.

yes lila they are tablets from the docs. I guess Roaccutane are tablets too ? They've made an amazing difference, but I guess you can't have alcohol with them ?

Just checked mine and they are tetralysal I think I was on others first.
I was on the diannette pill which clears it up but had to come off as had migraines!
Mind no good for the guys!
No good with alcohol x

A friend of mine has severe adult acne. Similar to the pictures posted above. It is not just a looks thing it is also really sore to touch and gets infected etc. She was put on a contraceptive pill and given this ointment from the doctor and although left with scarring the change is amazing and she is so much more confident. She uses pro skin care (can't think what brand) recommended bye a friend who is a really experienced beauty therapist. But what has actually got it gone is medication. I would say try medication if you can as it's really changed her whole outlook on life xxx

I tried everything, the oxytetracycline, duac, another topical gel, facials and proper skin care. I was just going to be put on the roactain sorry about all my spelling. When I was diagnosed with gluten intolerance. Within a month of cutting out gluten my acne was gone and if I do eat gluten now I get a breakout. Obviously this isn't the case for everyone but it is a symptom of food intolerance so could be a route to investigate for anyone who has tried everything else.
