Hello all,

I'd really appreciate someones advice. Ive been trained in Creative Retention+ acrylic system and have found it really good to work with however recently i have had a new client who previously had acrylic on. I soaked them off to start again and replaced them with a new set. Since then she has had 3 infills but they are lifting after a week.

I cant understand this as i have done all the prep and use all the recommended products. Also i have done 3 sets on other clients and they have had no lifting problems at all. This lady whose nails keep lifting is a busy mum of three and i wondered if there is anything i should be looking out for that she could be doing that could affect these nails. She has had acrylics before but says she has not had problems??

Im thinking of getting a primer as an extra to bond the nails but Retention+ says its primerless - do you still use primer?

I would really like to be able to look into this with this lady as i want to correct it and keep her as a client. Any advice greatly appreciated!

are her nails too long...??

are they nice and thin..flush in zone 3...??

is she a skin biter/picker...??

just throwing a few things of the top of my head.. x

As you have said that you have other clients that don't lift, I assume that you are right in thinking that your prep is fine and that this isn't the problem (although I believe that about 90% of lifting problems are down to prep not being performed thoroughly).

Are you sure that your mix ratio is correct as a too wet or too dry ratio would also cause lifting?

Have you tried using Nail fresh on this Client, I personally would try this before using acid free primer. You would Scrubfresh as normal, then apply a layer of Nail Fresh then Scrubfresh again.

If you have and this hasn't helped then yes, why not give acid free primer a go, you are right retention + doesn't need a primer, but it can be used with it should you wish, and this client sounds like it may help xx

Another thought too is that she could be taking some kind of medication that is causes her natural nail to react in a way that the product doesn't adhere to it well...

Hi

I am newly quaified and I had the same problem as you, the lady who's nails lifted was a hairdresser and had her hands in water alot, even though I had given her my aftercare advice.

You say she is a busy mum, is she wearing gloves for house work, yes she's had acrylics before and no lifting but were they nss? No lifting but also no nails:irked: also as mentioned before is she on any sort of medication? A change of pill for example can cause all sorts of hormone imbalances which, if they are going to, always affect hair, nails and skin.
finally................................ not all clients are strictly truthful in what they say, i.e. I've never had lifting before, if (perhaps) your zone 3 is not flush, then as soon as there is a small gap to be seen the nail tip of the other hand just cant seem to help picking at that edge:lol:

HI All,

thanks for your replies its been really helpful! One thing to ask...is there a way of me ensuring the zone 3 is flush? I have been told different things at college regarding thickness of nails which got a bit confusing, i tried to keep nails thinnish to look more natural but my tutor said they need to be thicker ? Should nails be thick or thin to adhere best?

I will speak to her regarding medication. As she has a new baby, is there types of creams and oils that can be causes of lifting?

I was thinking of taking them off for a couple of weeks and starting again. I wondered whether her other system (NSI) has reacted to the Creative if all traces werent completely removed? However as im fairly new to the nail enhancement work i cant be sure!x

Most of my clients don't have lifting, however there are two who regularly do and over the months I have discovered that client A will not wear gloves and uses Cillit Bang on a regular basis (she helps to run a hotel) and client B bleaches her dishcloths every morning and will not wear gloves either.

If most of your clients are OK it is probably nothing you are/are not doing. hth x

They should be thin in some places...(zone1 and 3) and then thicker is zone 2...(the stress area)...thick nails are not necessarily stronger ... and to much product in zone 3 can pop up ..(lift)...its all about balance.... x

well thank you all for your advice its really appreciated and has given me things to think about and investigate with her!x
