Hi
I'm setting up a home salon early next year. I'm training at the moment and decorating the room.

I will be specialising in waxing and nails and would like to focus also on intimate (including men) waxing.

What precautions do you take as a lone worker and do you offer intimate waxing at home?

I've just sold another business that I owned and we had a lone working policy for our staff but it was different as we had very few visitors to our unit.

Be grateful for any advice you might have.

Thank you
Jo
ps planning to go on a Kim Lawless course and just love her no nonsense approach on her website!

Hi Jo

I run my waxing business from home and offer Intimate waxing for both male and female clients.

Luckily all of my clients have been totally legit, when booking I make sure I get their name address and telephone number and I also try to get their email as sometimes they will give you their work email and you can get a little indication of who they are. You can also specify that you require I.D on arrival such as a driving licence or credit card with their name on.

Do remember you are opening your home to the public and you do not know them or their background. I am fortunate enough that my husband sometimes works from home so on the days he does, if I have male clients I book them in for that day. I would never do intimate waxing on a first time client if I did not have someone in the house.

You must always put your own safety first.

I hope this helps and good luck xx

I forgot to mention, defo do the training with Kim, she's great!

Thank you for your reply. Great advice. My husband is out during the day so I think I might do first few appointments, with male clients particularly, in evening until I'm comfortable with them. Was also wondering about panic buttons - one of my friends houses had one already fitted when she bought it but no idea where you get one from or who its linked to! I guess an alarm company. I live in quite quiet area and never worry about being here by myself (unlike some of my friends who won't come here after dark!) but want to take reasonable precautions.

I have been wanting to do male waxing for years, and am finally going to do this next year when I have my own summer house in the garden. I've specialised in female waxing for long enough but I have moved areas so have lost a lot of clients so need to start again so thought it was best to add this to the menu. I am also in the same boat, and will be working from home with no one else around and also wondered the same thing. I like the idea of getting id as soon as they arrive, is there any other help people can advise. Are there many people that work from home that do male waxing xx
