Hi,
I am a trained massage therapist and looking to extend the services on offer. At the moment i do Swedish,Aromatherapy and indian head massage. I would like to train in waxing and i have a few male clients who have expressed an interest. How if possible do i go about training to do waxing?

hi you would be best off messaging either axiom or the wax queen (geeks on this site) theyre very helpful and approachable

Hiya, Andy (Axiom) and I (Kim) specialise in male waxing........in particular, intimate waxing, Boyzilians etc. You're very welcome to PM or call either of us for a chat.

You would need to show that you're competent and confident in general body waxing before we would train anyone in male intimate waxing, for obvious reasons. Look forward to hearing from you. xxx

Hi Cambs-Therapist,

Welcome to the site, it's great to meet another chap who wants to get into waxing!

There are a couple of routes you can take to move down this path:
  • A full or part-time beauty course at your local college of FE or a private school (if you only want to focus on the hair removal side of things, some colleges will allow you to take individual modules rather than having to do the full Level 2 beauty qualification)
  • Intensive, fast-track training via a private provider, followed by additional mentoring, salon experience or specialised training to build your skills (both myself and Kim (The Wax Queen) can help with the mentoring/CPD training side of things)
There are pros and cons to both routes, and a search on the forums will soon highlight that many of us feel passionately about the subject of education :D

A good place to start your search is the Guild of Professional Beauty Therapists' training directory: Beauty Guild : Training Directory - Beauty Guild

You can search for courses in your local area or further afield.

One caution I will share with you as a fellow chap: when I looked at training several years ago, I found it really difficult to find a school that would accept me on a waxing course as a male student. Hopefully things have changed since then, but do be prepared to start quoting equal opportunities at people! On that note, it's worth knowing that the Carlton Institute and Hive of Beauty occasionally run fast-track waxing courses specifically for male therapists, but you may find there is a long wait before they get enough students to run a course.

Do make the most of the Geeks on this site - we're a friendly bunch and there's a wealth of combined knowledge out there. Check out my male waxing tutorial (Gorilla Warfare) and feel free to post, PM or email if you have any specific questions on men's waxing - we're always happy to help.

Good luck with your search, let us know how you get on :D

you can take home courses in waxing maybe that would be an potion for you !!

Camb-therapist - welcome to the site. Well I was in exactly the same situation as you, massage therapist looking at adding Waxing to my treatment list. Phew what a nightmare that was! I spoke to so many of my local training venues, companies and colleges. All fine about training until they understood that I wanted the training for me, a boy. Some said they would admit me to a course, but I would have to provide my own model, and i would have to work away from the rest of the class / group in a screened off area!

In the end I paid a local trainer for some one to one private training and certification. That with the advice from some of the waxing guru's here I am going from strength to strength, and I am now starting to see regular clients for waxing. Not as profitable as massage (there is more product costs) at the moment, but its great for helping with regular cashflow and later in the year I'm hoping to do my Male Intimate Waxing training and some further continuous training to improve my techniques.

It can be an uphill struggle, but persevere with it and it will pay off for you.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
Mat
