I wonder if any one can help,

I had a lady today enqiring about a full body massage, during the conversation she mentioned that she has lupus.

I know it attacks the immune system and it will eventually go into the major organs.

I have asked her to get a Drs letter if she is able to recive a full body massage, however im not able to find out if its a contra indication.

As its not something I have come accross before i wondered if there was any geeks who know.

Thanks Helen

A lady I used to work with has lupus, and massage was recommended to her by her doctor as it is supposed to help relieve the symptoms such as the pain of sore joints and muscles

But if your not 100% confident to carry out the treatment, it's always best to have a doctors note for peace of mind

my boss had lupus and was fine just cant do any pressure points because it triggered it off but lots of effleurage and stroking movements i do and she loves it.

My friend has lupus and she seems to treat each symptom as and when she gets them (rather than the condition itself, which can be different with each individual) i.e. Skin sensitivity, joint tenderness, sun intolerance, cold hands & feet, weakened immune system resulting in more colds etc.
Massage helps her in many ways by reducing stress, easing the muscles, increasing blood flow to her hands & feet, moisturises her skin etc etc.
So as long as your client is OK with your massage medium (cream, talc, oil) and has no other contraindications (diabetes, heart or blood pressure problems) - I'd do it.

Thanks for that advice i feel happier in treating her now, I think she is going to get a letter from her Dr as well.
