i suffer them :( mine start with my vision, its like im looking through a kaleidoscope, then half my face goes numb and droops, then my arm also goes numb, then i vomit, then the headache comes all within 2 hours usually! i cant even open my eyes, hubby has to bring a basin to me and direct the vom yuuuuck! (thats love right there!) it drives me mental when i see people on facebook "oooh i have a migraine" eh, no you don't love, if you did you wouldn't be on a computer!! iv suffered from i was 13 when my periods started, and got progressively worse especially on the run up to my wedding, had a few while i was pregnant but rarely get them now thankfully, maybe only had 3 in the past year lasting around 4 days. my doc wont give me anything now as they are no longer "regular" enough xxx

Mine have improved over the years - I have had all the symptoms. Apart from managing diet and stress, I find taking magnesium really helpful. I read a book about it and it does help a lot.

I get them occasionally starting with feeling unusual then getting the flashing light visual disturbance that slowly affects half my vision then after about 30 mins I feel head sore, nauseous and tired but no headache as such, whereas my sister can't get out of bed when she has one :(

The last time I had one my bf phoned into work for me to say I had a migraine and was in bed dosed up to the eyeballs and wouldnt be in the next day, a docs note could be provided if necessary. Within an hour she had text him saying 'I've heard somewhere paracetamol gets rid of headaches..see you Monday'...when I woke up eventually I was livid!!! I'd like to see her take a paracetamol when it feels like youre on a fairground waltzer with someone belting you in the head with a bat! Silly people!

Calling in sick is the worst. I can't bear to have someone else do it I don't know why - but I have to wait till between throwing up to get on the phone. By which time I sound like cr@p & think I sound REALLY fake! Am so paranoid :D

when I was 17 I honestly thought id got some kind of brain tumour growing because I used to get headaches constantly that lasted 3/4 days at a time.

dr prescribed some medication in the end.. think it was a beta blocker?? cant remember to be honest. but after reading the side effects leaflet one was sudden death  what the actual? lol so totally freaked me as you can imagine! So I threw the tabs in the bin.

had an eye test, optician said I was short sighted in one eye & i was given glasses which I've now worn for years (only when reading, watching tv ect..) & I've got to say since i started wearing them I rarely (touch wood & touch wood again lol) I don't suffer with them very often anymore.

Have you seen your Gp / optician?

Do you take any other medication?

Do you drink enough water? (sounds silly but if ever I do get a headache now, a cold pint of water usually does the trick) x

I'm sorry but your phrasing in the second paragraph actually made me lol!

My mum was so scared my migraines were a tumour as my dad had 3. When they diagnosed basilar migraines "but there's no real medication for it" I was all p'd off! Better than a tumour though hey. I keep telling my fella I've got a wonky brain but he's less than sympathetic!!

I'm sorry I'm still laughing about the side effect comment xx

Hi ladies

Just wondered if anyone suffers from menstrual migraines? And if they do what your treating them with?

I have been suffering for roughly 8 years and and have been to the docs and specialist, tried different pain killers, preventatives and acupuncture.

My lasted preventative was Topiramate which for 3 months appeared to be working, no migraines at all. However I have had dramatic weight loss, which to most women you would be jumping for joy. But I am of slight build anyway (size 10 if that). In 2 months of increasing my tablet (from 1 to 2 (so 50mg) Iv'e lost a stone in weight, and whats worse im still loosing it. I am now seeing the Dr every month for a weight check as im now under weight and its dangerous for my health and bones and having to have blood tests. Also having to come off the horrible tablet, A) because it isn't suiting me but B) because now I can't think straight on it, its messed up my periods, im emotional and in general I feel like a wreck :(.

My Dr is weaning my off this tablet and wants me to try Oamotrigine, has anyone tried this?

Would love to chat with someone with similar experiences, this sucks :(

Hi x
I was suffering from migraines through stress when my partner was away in the army x

I went to see my homeopath and with the treatment he gave me worked wonders x

Look into Aspartame it's a sweetener and I believe this caused a lot of my headaches, and it's in loads of things, google it.

I suffered really bad headaches and then watched a documentary on aspartame and now try and avoid it not had a headache in months, it's even in diluting juice.

Also caffeine can cause terrible headaches.

I get a migraine once or twice a year (feels like being beaten up around the head with a cricket bat) and for days afterwards my head feels bruised.

But every month I suffer with pre-mensturation headaches. Nothing works for it. I just have to suffer through it and it lasts about 3 to 4 days. I can carry on but it's constantly there and I can't focus on what im doing as all I think about is the pain from the blasted headache. It makes me horrible to live with. I have just finished a headache bout yesterday and just feel really tired from it. Off to bed....

I know all about Aspartame and anything which days it's 'no added sugar.' I avoid as it's normally replaced with this stuff! All my coffee and tea is decaf (not that I drink much coffee, maybe a cup or 2 a week) and even things like lemonade and code should I have it is free from sweetners and caffeine

I can't just b left to suffer through it though I have a family that relies on me to run it, a business and a second job! I can't be bed bound for 2 weeks out of the month cos that's what I'm like when I'm not on medication when my period is due :(

I usually get horrible headaches everytime I come on my period. I have no idea what causes it but I have been looking into taking some extra Iron supplements hoping that helps. What I find strange is that it's always a sharp pain on the exact same part of my head every time. Very odd. Oh and I find that anything sugary like chocolate helps me (how convenient for me) ...

Hi , u poor thing , I know how u feel x I am on topamax (toparimate) was 1 x am 2 x pm but just increased to 2 in the morning ,I would agree with u about feeling like an emotional wreck , I have been it on about a year and have gone on the mini pill 6 months ago as my migraine wax also round mg period, my neurologist suggested the increase in dosage 2 weeks ago but haven't got weight loss x what's the other medication? I haven't heard of that? Have u been on the other for long? X x

Have u thought about the pill at all ? I have to say when my dr suggested it to me I was quite shocked!best decision I have made , in 6 months I have only had 2 migraines whereas before I would be 3/4 a month x x

No iv never heard of it either, he's told me to go away and do my research on it to make sure I'm happy with it before going on it (once weaned off the Topiramite). As for the pill I'm allergic to it so that's a no go to x

If I get time later I will google it as I am all for trying something new too, sometimes I feel like I am going mad , feel so down and that I am on emotional roller coaster not fair on my hubby and kids but I can't come off the meds as I was so ill I , I think I am almost bearable ?! Lol x life is hard suffering from these and if people don't have migraine they wouldn't realise the agony as it sounds crazy ! X

Have you looked at your diet? There are some foods that can trigger migraines. These may not be the cause of yours but it's worth looking into just to try to alleviate them a bit! Just a thought x

I get them, starts with a 'flickering' in my left eye, and if I don't catch it fast I'm out for 48hrs. Best advice I ever got was from one of my workmates, a doctor. He said whenever he's getting one it's two 500mg paracetamol, two 400mg ibuprofen and a bottle of full sugar coke, he works in A&E and they cant go home sick as you can imagine! Works like a charm, nothing else sorts them out for me!
