Hi All,

In the past few months I have had a couple of clients ask if I remove milia with the small needles (microlances/lancets I am assuming), which I dont.
One lady said she didnt want a full facial, just the milia removed, and had been to a salon in London that did that for her.

Can you answer a few questions I have please;

Can any therapist do this extraction?, as I didnt train to do this!

Does anyone just offer milia extraction on its own or always in a facial?

What do you use to remove these?

Thank you so much in advance

Love Emma xx

We got taught to do it with a sterile needle as part of our facial routine if required - but tbh I don't think I'd feel totally happy/confident doing it

I use these on myself,

I'm not a skin beauty pro, but as a body piercer I'm ridiculously comfortable around needles, well when I'm the one holding them, anyway! :D

I do find you need to be incredibly careful with them, because they are so sharp that its easy to go a little too deep, which causes a tiny bit of bleeding.

Hi,

Personally i've never felt confident doing this, but girls i worked with in the salon used to find this was really effective after a glycolic peel, as the dead skin cells have been unglued and easier to remove?xx

never never never take needles to the skin following gycolic peels

I thought you had to be trained in electrolysis to do this but on my Dermalogica training for the medi bac range they teach you how to do it. They told me you can do it as long as your insurance company says so. But then you are going to have to buy a sharpes box and dispose of it correctly so not sure if it's really worth it xxx

A sharps box will not cost you much and it will take seriously ages before you need to dispose of it.

You will need to check with your insurance if your qualification covers milia removal as some skincare companies will teach you needle extraction eg: dermalogica.

I offer both. If I do milia on its on, I follow with high frequency on the treated areas.

What do you use to remove these?

Microlancets - you can get them from Beauty Express or Ellisons.

I was also told by Florence Barrett Hill to insert the needle in the opposite direction to the hair growth then you can cut side to side to create a flap. This way the skin heals better.

Is anyone out there using a different method?

Thank you all so much for your replies.

I am insured with BABTAC so will find out from them if my insurance covers this.

What are the benefits of doing high frequency after the milia extraction?

If it was just milia extraction alone without high frequency would the routine be; cleanse, tone, extraction, tone & moisurise? Or would anyone recommend different?

Love Emma xx

This website explains the benefits of high frequency fairly well.
High Frequency Facial Treatment

In a nutshell it has an anti-bacterial effect and promotes healing.

You can do milia removal without HF, make sure you use a post extraction solution afterwards to disinfect and soothe the area.

The reason why I follow milia removal with HF is because it reduces the possibility of an infection and it promotes a more professional service.

HF machine is not very expensive, about £240 from carlton. I use the classic one.
