alot of you are talkin about mixin different powders to achieve different looks.i know theres a custom blend course i could take but unfortunatley i dont have the money right now.Anyhow,i was thinking about getting started on some glitter tips as i figured mixin glitter and powder would be easier but noticed some of you saying to mix - 2 parts powder to 1 part glitter etc... this all seems easy enuff but are you using something to measure this or doing a 'there abouts amount"?

I guess it depends what type of glitter it is - chunky or fine too.

I go by my eye iykwim, or you even use a teaspoon as I do sometimes.

You can mix them with either pink or clear. I tend to use pink mainly.

You can also buy some fab glittler that can be mixed with ANY powder & they have full instructions as to how much etc, based on the type of glitter. You can get these from our very own geek - Naturalnails aka Fiona - have a look at her website for Nail Graphix glitters - there's so many colours you'll be spoilt for choice Nail Graphix glitter Acrylic

thanks for that, ive got a million ideas in my head now n cant wait to get started xx:lol:

why not go for a pre mixed powder??

imo saves lots of faffing and waste of powder if you dont get it right

if you like an intense glitter then the boogie nights walk of fame collection is fab for that extra bing with french and no mixing needed.....

plus you can use them with any traditional monomer so no need to get extra monomer or brush (altho the kit does have a 2oz monomer in it too which can be handy ;))

That's great!

I love my glitters, I've got loads, too many really.

For practising, why not go to the local craft/art shop and grab a few glitters, mix up a small amount with your powder & try on a tip to check whether the colour will bleed, some do (cheapie ones) when mixed with the monomer. That way it will be less expensive for practising ideas!

i love my glitters too in all my nail art i have glitter
i dont go with out my nails r glitter
i mix n if its not right then i will save and use it next time
my glitter is fine and its great

Young nails has glitter recipies. Try the Las Vegas kit. Just call and ask raymond all about it and ask for the recipies! You custom blend your glitter and you get the best most vibrant glitter mixes ever!

I was taught that the mix ratio for glitter is 4-1 not 2-1... Apparantly gives a much stronger nail, I think I was told that if the ratio is off the nails can be brittle?
Not sure of the merit of this info but let me know if I'm wrong.

i dont do 2-1 either
my ratio is 4 clear to 1 glitter
if that doesnt look right, i sometimes add a little more glitter and go to
3 parts powder to 1 part glitter.

i use my cuticle pusher to measure it out.
it works well for small amounts and gets into little tubes of glitter well.

I can highly recommend Nail Graphix :green: It takes the guess work out when all you have to do is add your powder to the pot of glitter, mix, then away you go :D
