Hello 😃

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I'm 15 weeks pregnant with my second but am quite big already and suffering quite badly with back pain, particularly lower back pain. I seen my midwife yesterday and she recommended some physio but also suggested a massage might help. i know that you can getmadsages specifically for pregmant ladies so was hoping someone could give me some advice and point me in the right direction? a nip

Apologies for the first message, it won't let me edit and I now realize the second part makes no sense at all! I think I was trying to ask if someone could give me some advice or point me in the right direction for a massage specifically for pregnant ladies. Thank you x

Where are you based?

Sorry - I'm in Edinburgh x

Oh, I'm in London, if I was closer I'd hook you up. Hope you find a great therapist :)

Hi, you just need to check that you go to someone who is trained in pregnancy massage. That way, they'll know how to position you, and what oils etc are appropriate. I offer a pregnancy massage, and offer 40 minutes wherever the mum to be wants it. Some like it over the bump, and some not. Some want legs done, and some want emphasis on the back. Some spas offer a pregnancy package which I think looks nice. You need to be confident that the person is insured for pregnancy massage as well. It might be worth asking your midwife. Good luck x

Thank you for the advice, that's why I was hoping for some advice rather than just googling it. I've had a back massage before which left me in agony for days so I don't really want to be left the same way, especially with being pregnant.

I'm presuming you're nowhere near Edinburgh? x

To be honest and as you are already in pain I would stick with a physio or look for a chiro or osteo that specialises in pregnancy. You cant be sure what you will get with pregnancy massage. The training is often just a one day add on and if the initial massage training hasn't been very good either....
Of course if you can find someone on recommendation then that will be better.
Personally if you came to me in pain I would contraindicate you for myself and recommend an osteo I know.

Leicstershire!!! Fancy a trip lol! I think you'd be best looking for a masseuse rather than looking at beauty salons, as someone specialising more in massage will perhaps have done the further training!!! HTH x

I got a massage when I was 27 weeks pregnant with my twinnies mind u it was at college when I was studying my level 3 beauty but they just had me sit on a chair and lie my head on beauty bed with a pillow for comfort and it was heaven I actually fell asleep lol and it helped with my back pains. I hope u do find someone to give u massage coz there great :) x

Thanks for all your replies. I will give Clarins and McDonald Hotel a phone - I'm just feared they make it worse! On waiting list for physio now and had a risk assessment done at work today so fingers crossed there's some improvement soon.

Cookies - fingers crossed for you xx

I know mamma mio do pregnancy massage treatments. You could maybe email them and ask if they have any spa accounts in Edinburgh and contact them. They're training is great and you know exactly how to deal with pregnant ladies. :)

Aw thanks so much Lolly, just googled it and they have a spa in the Scotsman Hotel (about 20 mins from me) and offer a whole range of maternity packages 😃 will get on to them first thing x
