Hi guys, has anyone tried the mylar flakes? I am having trouble applying it. I have been putting a thin layer of acrylic on then applying the flakes to the wet acrylic, then finishing application as normal. The problem is that the nails then look too thick and if i file them the flakes come off. Does anyone have a better idea of how to apply them as they do look gorgeous when done. Thanks. If anyone doesn't know what they are, if you just put mylar flakes into you tube, then you can see them. Sorry i don't know how to add a link.:rolleyes:

Why don't you fill out your profile so we can all help you???
:hug:

Maybe try pressing them down into the acrylic with an orange wood stick before applying the next bead so they are more encased into it

You are making your base layer too thick! Thinner base = more room for a thicker layer on the top.

Ho new2this,
I use these flakes quite alot and have found they come in diff size from diff places! :irked: which can effect the application... i found chopping them in the pot or bag with some sharpe craft scissors prior to application helps!
Spread a bit out on a clean tissue so u dont clog up the storage pot....
wet ur brush and pick up the smallest bead - u dont want any thickness just enough to stick flakes too! start at one corner of the tip.. wet the section and re wet brush and dab into the flakes get a small cluster ( dont try to pick up individual will take ages!) .. then press the flakes into the wet section on the nail... i find it easier to do in stages.. rather than trying to cover the whole tip in one go! but the more u do the easier u will find it to judge...
u really dont have to be so precise either... a smile line isnt the look u get with flakes... sometimes it nice to add a contrasting or matching glitter smile line....gems etc...:lol:
once u are happy.. cover the entire nail with clear.... just remember if u do this all in one go... to prime the nail plate sufficent times!
hope this helps xxx:hug::lol:

What are you wetting and re-wetting with?...if it is 'neat' monomer then I would not recommend this.

If your sculpting - sculpt out your free edge as thin as you possibly can - If your using tips - thin your tip out as much as you can....apply a base layer as thin as you can...while this base layer is still soft apply your flakes and push in & flatten down with an orange wood stick...then apply your clear.

NO!! sorry didnt explain clearly! not just ( monomer) liquid.... initially apply a small bead of acrylic really thinly... i mean literally wipe clean brush and re dip brush into liquid dappen dish to moisten so can pick up flakes... not saturate the nail should not be flooded !....if brush dry it will not pick up flakes..
