Nail geeks, what's your bread and butter? Do you do more natural nail services, or are enhancements and NNO more supplementing? If you only did natural nail mani/pedi, could you survive? What percentage of your services are natural vs. "chemical"?

At my spa we only offer natural nail care and things are slow. I'm wondering if I'm missing the boat with not offering enhancements. The owner seems against enhancements because they are "fake" and not natural.:rolleyes::mad: I think if we could get more clients in for gel enhancements and make more money, we'd both be happy! lol

Thanks in Advance!

I think if you would like to offer a different service which will bring you in a bit of extra cash and is kinder to the nails look into soakoff gel they are great on natural nails hands and feet they are great for those who like manicures, and like to have a colour on the nails but find that they chip to quick a soak off gel is great. hope this help.

I have talked to her about the soak off, and seem to be making progress with that. Thankfully. She still doesn't like the idea of the more permanent enhancements... I'm going to take all my supplies in today so she can see them and smell them. Hopefully she'll warm up to them. :)

No enhancements are better for your nails than others.

Although clients do seem to like the idea of soak off gels.

I mainly do Natural nail overlays with gel... both soak off and buff off.
I hardly ever do manicures or pedicures anymore..

I would be out of business long ago if I had to rely on natural nail services.

Sad but true

See! That's what I mean! People around here tend to get enhancements. Some women get manis once in a blue moon. But not very often because I am guessing the look doesn't last. If women can justify the expense of enhancements to themselves, they'll get it. Just like facials. They aren't necessary. But women get them all the time. When the esthetician isn't doing facials, she's waxing. Well, what's so natural about ripping hair out of it's folicles? lol I'm not dissing wax, I love getting that lip hair ripped off my face. :D

What's so natural about nail polish? It's still chemical. It's not any worse than gels. I just wish she'd say yes. I think I might have more appointments. Hopefully we get a lot of interest in the soak off and business picks up with that. The more variety you offer with services, the more money you'll make. We do offer varieties of mani's and pedi's, but we don't offer any enhancements. Many women come in for mani's simply because someone got a gift certificate for them. Oye ve.

Are you wearing enhancements yourself?

I think if she were to see how natural your nails look in that pic on your profile she'd change her mind and the clients would be more likely to ask about them.

Some people have a misconception about nail enhancements and think "porn star nails" are what they will get when they look for Acrylic or gel.... of course we know that this isn't the case.

We only do porn star nails on special occasions :lol:

oh i love the idea of porn star nails lol could we charge extra !!!!!!!!!!! lol again

I wonder in the mani / pedi world is suffering more in the current financial climate?

To be honest, if you already have fairly nice nails, you might save money and try and do a polish job at home to save a few quid. (not that thats all mani's involve, but from a public perspective a manicure might seem more of a luxury)

If you have enhancements, its often because your natural nails are a bit hideous (like mine!) and it become something you feel you NEED to have to feel good.

Maybe you could see if your boss will let you do a survey of your clients and ask if many hae or would want enhancements? It might speak to her business brain if there is an interest in them!

Good luck

Hey gang... LOL at the porn star nails! Oh my! That made me laugh! :D Of course you'd have to charge extra...not only because of the extra product involved, but to pay for the gloves you'd have to wear...I mean...we all can imagine where those nails might end up....ewwwwwww! lol

I took all my supplies in the spa to let her look at labels/sniff. And sniff she did! lol Everything seems okay, she still wants to research it more....but she said she is open to doing the NNO with the Nobility. She flat out refuses the extensions. She said it goes against what she has as an idea for her spa. She wants it all natural/holistic... She said she's okay with the Nobility because it's enhancing the natural nail and promoting natural nail growth by protecting it. She's not okay with extentions because it's not natural, it's fake. Even though she realizes that I could make them look nice and natural (I sent her copies of pics in my album) she still does not want to offer extensions. I told her that my only fear, is as a nail tech I might make more money offering enhancements. I know that in summer pedi's will pick up like crazy, but in winter it's dead and was thinking that it might help to have extensions on the menu. She said she understood, and knew exactly where I was going with it, and we talked about other services we could make to help with that. We have a new skin care line and they have a microdermobrasion product. We talked about quick in-and-out pick-me-ups that are fast and relatively cheap that people will eat up. I also asked her if she would consider in the winter time (especially) possibly offering the UV cure soak off gel for toes, since clients don't have to freeze their feet. She said that she would be willing to look into that.

So, that's where it is! I'm still sad that she is against extensions because the nail is "fake" and not your own nail....but at least she is not totally against everything. She is willing to sit down and talk, and is willing to help come up with other treatments.

So, it's a start. :)
