Hi there!

I've been reading the forums for a while getting loads of tips here! So anyone able to help with this?

I have just started my own business at long last!:) and want to take a course doing either acrylic nails or silk, fibreglass or wraps.
Not sure which to go for as the Olivia Rogers course offers a two day intensive training course inc a millienium kit for either system (acrylic or gel) which seems quite good. At minute i can only afford to do one system then eventually if needed i'll do another.

Any advice on which system i should go for first, which seems more popular? I've heard that nails can take a while to recover after acrylic nails, any suggestions would help! I'm based in Northern Ireland.

Thanks

Hiya ... No nails should ever need to recover as no damage should ever be done... with any system. Gel is also acrylic...as are wraps....so what you call acrylic is actually called L&P (liquid and powder)....so you see it makes no difference what system you use as they all come from the same family....its all about how they are applied..looked after and removed.

I don't know what your budget is but i would recommend shopping about...cheapest can unfortunately also mean poorest in quality...its false economy as you may leave there feeling that you have learnt nothing and end up doing a better quality course..hence paying out twice.

Hope this helps x

Hi,

As bagpuss has mentioned, it is not the product that does the damage, its the untrainned nail tech that causes the damage!!

I first learnt how to do L+P nails before gel.

I found this was the best way for me as I got to learn the basics. Where and how to apply product, and proper control of the product. Gel can be tricky as it may run all over the place if you apply too much product, and dont cure fast enough.
L+P sets almost straight away so I was able to put product where I wanted it to go, and knew it would stay there!

After learning L+P it was much easier for me to learn how to do gel nails.

2 days? TWO DAYS?

I'm sorry to be the one to break the news, but you won't learn how to do any kind of nails in 2 days.

Instead of trying to workout which system to learn, why not first learn where to get the best training available so you can actually leave your course with some knowledge and take your first steps on the road of making a business of doing nails.

Thanks for your replies, yet again i learn something new! I have my NVQ in manicure but know nothing about nail extensions, yet! So now i know that the difference is in how theyre applied.

The course i'm looking at is actually two days but with a four week period in between. You go home and practice then book your second day. I have looked a few courses but just wasnt sure which i should start out with.

The school seems quite up to standard, Olivia Rogers is an international educator and also a level 3 Beauty Assessor and Internal Verifier so happy to enrol there. Looking forward to getting started will let u know what happens! Thanks again for your replies.
