hi everyone !

i seem to be haveing a problem with sidewalls its only just started where the middle finger always looks like a paddle so a quick tutorial please on how to file straight sidewalls (omg the embarrasment of having to ask lol )

i don't see it till i've taken a picture then it's really apparrent ! :(

If you have to file then your problem is how you are applying the product and how you do your zone two.

Most techs seem to do a small bead in zone 1, a larger bead in zone 2 and a small bead in zone 3.

It is this larger bead in zone 2 that causes the problem;

I do not build a horizontal apex like that. I build a central vertical apex and by doing that, you will solve all your problems of excess bulk and excess filing. Interested?

Yep!! You got it.

You need to envisage a 'spine' or 'backbone of product, that runs from the free edge to the eponychium. Create that structure, and you will create nails that look slim and sleek and nails that rarely if ever break. All in the brush technique.

This is a lot of help, I have been having similar issues with paddle shapes. The visualisation of the spine down the nail is perfect, can see where I have been going wrong from that.. thanks!

Glad to be of help. The technique is described in my book 'nailclass', amongst many others.

And I've just ordered it.

thanks Gigi i do have your book and am going to read it again :) my client tomorrow will see a big difference i hope :) x

Sounds like a fabulous book Gigi! Where can I order is it available widely online?

Waiting until April for the new edition of Complete nail technician which also covers many great topics, however I love to be able visualise whilst learning, best way for me I find x

My book is comletely different to Marians book ... 'nailcalss' is a book on the techniques of actually creating nail enhancements to be structurally perfect, long lasting and beautiful. It is not product related and you do need to visualise.

It is available to order through all bookshops and Habia, and Amazon, but Amazon are always out of it so you have to wait for them to get it.. Sweet Squared is the quickest way to order it and also from Mundo products as well.

Ah great, and the visual bit is perfect! Thanks for the heads up about Amazon as I probably would have ordered from there first.. I dont like to wait around too long though :D

I do not have a sweet squared account yet so will get the ball rolling on that one in the morning and go from there, I look forward to reading it x

hi
sorry to jump on this thread - but is nail class also suitable for geeks wanting to specialise in natural nails? still struggling a little with polishing and filing techniques? thanks x

Not really, 'nailclass' is really about the art of nail enhancement.

I have written a tutorial on perfect polishing here on the site though which you may find useful and it is also in 'nailclass'.

thank you geeg, think just need to practise more, confidence was knocked when did complimentary file/polish cpl weeks ago at bridal akeup trial and polish peeled off her nails following day ! as im a make up geek dont do manis very often, thought id perfected it when first trained, but now realise i need to "keep my hand" in (excuse the pun) and keep practising until it just comes naturally.
