Hi guys i think this thread is going to be a bit of a rant and rave but i need to get things off my chest.....

Yesterday a new salon opened in our area (On a army camp) which is fine, i called the owner to see if she needed any staff.... blah blah.

Anyway, i went to see her yesterday and she wasn't exactly over busy, she had about 4 appointments all day. We had a little chat and simply asked me: 'Why on earth did you train in Acrylics?'. I told her that i prefered acrylics and that i am doing a Gel course within the next few weeks.

She has insisted that she does NOT want acrylics in the salon because of the odour and that she is only going to be offering gels. She also insisted that this was the most desired system to use which is fine but i prefer to wear acrylics.. (Each to their own etc).

She has taken all my notes from the previous salon that folded and she says that she doesn't know if she will take me on or not?.....

I don't know what to think really, any thoughts? Sorry for this post being sooooooo long, needed to get that off my chest though, thanks for reading, phew :o

I wouldn't worry, she obv can not do acrylics herself as to why she saying gel is better, I think it is very unwise not to offer both systems as they are both great for diffrent reasons.

xx

What really makes me laugh is that gel and liquid & powder are both acrylics just in different forms!!

And also she is being really sort sighted! Because *she* doesn't like them doesn't mean her clients won't ... what if clients start asking for them? In business some of it is about what the client will pay for over our preferences.

our businesses are always evolving, meeting the demands of the public, you never know she might be knocking on your door in the near future..

she just sounds a little too big for her boots to me,
when i first started doing nails, i had been trained in silk, fibreglass, gels, and l&p. but im fanatical about l&p!

I went to see a lady who owned a very trendy, popular salon in my town, and being young and impressionable, i was dead excited, i did an example of my work, and she took me on, on a self employed basis.
she then informed me that the Hairdressers would not appreciate the smell of my products, and that she had been to New York lately, and gels was all the rage, she also wanted me to use an electric nail file, which was very new then, which i hated! but went along with what she wanted, just because i suppose i thought she must of known best,
anyway to cut a long story short, i soon became miserable in my work, and i ended up getting basically ripped-off by her anyway, which gave me a massive knock in confidence at the time!
Saying that, if you are doing a gel course, it might end up being a good way for you to gain some experience in this field?

So id say be very cautious, you obviously have a bad feeling about her, or you wouldnt of posted this,
wishing you all the best,
Kate x
