I am fed up of seeing clients coming through the door with severely damaged nail beds and freaky breakages right through to the beds from the damn cheap awfully unhygienic salons. Why on earth are we letting them take over and ruin the UK Nail Industry? Surely they cannot keep using MMA for cheap nails and unsantized nail drills on clients and almost doing some salons out of business with thier ridiculously cheap treatments....Someone stop them NOW!

Where is the justice?

We have the same problem in the US. It's huge in my area. From where I sit, it doesn't seem much is being done about it.

On occasion, I do see a story on the news about it. Maybe alert your local media to a NSS in your area. I'm realizing that the general public doesn't know that the NSS are non-standard. I think the more we educate them, the less likely they will continue to frequent the NSS.

Then only thing I can say to you is this: keep doing the FAB job you are doing. I believe people will get tired of having cheap nails and the problems that are associated with them.

Yes this is a damn nuisance to the nail industry ..... however, may I just say that for the sake of being professional that we refrain from calling the cowboys of the industry "Chinese/Tia......etc" and refer to them as NSS.

There are many highly qualified technicians who come from these parts of the world who do actually stick to the standards that is expected in the nail world, and are brilliant at their jobs. I would hate to think that these technicians are labeled in such a way. I feel it would be an unfair description of what they do.

NSS can be anyone, from any part of the world, who chooses not to conform with the high standards we as professionals are expected to carry out.

I do understand what your point is about NSS. It's been discussed on many occasions on here.

The only thing I can say is that by giving your clients the best service, after care advice and knowledge of what you do, will show the client what really should be expected of us.

Keeping standards high.:)

I agree with you completely but have to say that until YOU mentioned it in this post NO ONE had labeled them as anything other than NSS.

No probs just a thought.

Apologies if it appeared that I was making an issue.

Believe me the mods take great care to delete any references that should not be made.

We have wonderful friends from all nations on this site and it is most important to think before posting and to not offend those people who we care about.

There are plenty of NSS about run by all sorts of technicians from all sorts of places.

You are not wrong to mention it but rest assured that the mods are looking out for it constantly ... that is what we are here for amongst other things.

Anyone can also report a post if they feel it is racist ... please do.

Educate me here please. What does MMA stand for? I think i've figured out that NSS means "non-standard salons". Is that correct?Sorry if its a dumb question but I'm from the Caribbean.

MMA is the abbreviation for Methyl Methacrylate (Monomer) When it is in the monomer, it creates enhancements that are harmful to the natural nails and to the surrounding soft tissue.

NSS tend to use unbranded MMA because (you guessed it) it's cheap.

Because it doesn't stick well to the nail plate without help, the NSS tend to heavily etch the nail plate with a drill prior to application, so clients suffer allot of damage and pain! In most of the States the use of MMA monomer for nails is banned.

All branded lines use Ethyl Methacrylate Monomer.

hi

Have all of you ladies signed the petition that my MP is taking toparliament? visit my website and go to the home page or the regulate salons page and sign the petition, there is also information there for those of you wondering what MMA is x get all your friends and family to sign aswell x

Thank you so much for that explanation geeg! This site is great. So far we have not had a take over by 'such' salons here. In fact there isnt even one such salon as far as I know!! Everyone uses good quality products such as Star Nail, Tammy Taylor, CND Ez-flow and Pinnacle etc and we sanitise sanitize sanitise!! I'm goin to research all of those now to make sure they are not MMAs.

Cheers!

As I said, NONE of the branded lines are MMA. You do not need to research those. MMA is unbranded dental acrylic monomer.

slightly OT but it is so disheartening to many of us when these NNS seem to do so well. My local one is mostly very busy, I think they have about 6 techs working at any given time. Yes the results (as far as joe bloggs is concerned) do look great, and yes the prices are far below most local salons, and yes the service does not take very long at all.......I cannot help but think the average client on the street is drawn towards it due to these reasons.

Personally I would like to see each one publically exposed, closed down and never to be seen again!!

Why not just offer a 'quick' set yourself to those who want it BUT with great hygene and beautiful results?? Use PopIts for this service.

In my experience most of these places are not so cheap as you say ... but they are quick and that is what people want these days ... less time in the salon. It is more important than price.

Its very true to say that anyone can run a NSS, I used to go to a lady who rented a table, she used NSI but the way she worked was certainly non standard, I just wish I knew better then. She was very english, but very un sanitary! xxx

Yeah...that's true...NSS are being run by all Races of people...I know quite of few in my area of Florida...so NSS is not just to one Race of people anymore...NSS seems to be the FUTURE, with the prices of everything going up. A lot of people that I work with have changed from Regular Salons to NSS because they are on a budget...they said that they know there nails are not properly shaped or probably will only last for 5-7 days but they just needed to have them done.:irked::irked::irked:
