Hi guys
Hoping you can help me... I have my practical nail assessment on Monday.
I've recently been trained with the Attraction Acrylic system and was initially told about the 2:2 ratio.
However, I've also watched Denise Wright on the training dvd and she tells you to wipe your brush once. So thats what I've been doing as I've been having problems picking up a large bead, and I'm having to use 2 beads to do zone 1 and 2. This is really starting to annoy me because my zone 1 then becomes way too thick + high which then starts to give that "spade" look until I've spent way too much time filing it all down again.
I'm beginning to wonder if I need a brush with a larger barrel. I am still using the one we were given in our training pack - it is a size 8 kolinsky. I've wanted to get a better one for a while but havent known which one to get.
What do you think?

I have never used NSI but..no matter the system I am sure the same rules apply. If you want a larger bead you need more liquid...if you want a smaller bead you need less liquid.
I am not following what you mean about the zones..as I have always worked like this zone 1 (tip) in one bead and zone 2 (stress area) in another larger bead then zone 3 (cuticle area) with a smaller bead. So I don't understand why you are stressing about doing zones 1 & 2 in 2 beads....but as I said I have never trained with NSI.

Anyway, if you want to get a large bead ensure you have enough liquid in your brush. Just because Denise wipes her brush in the DVD does not mean you have to! If you manage to get the bead size you want without wiping your brush on the side then go for it. All it could be is that Denise has filled her brush more than you do and maybe wipes her brush lighter than you do. DVD's and videos are brilliant for helping us perfect certain things in our techniques but they are not rules carved in stone.
I hope this helps you.

mix ratio is one of the hardest things for most newbies to figure out so dont beat yourself up;) the brush you are using is a great brush, so getting a new one will not fix your problem, you'll just have to start at square 1 to get your ratio down with the new brush. if you cant pick up a large enough bead then don't wipe as much monomer out of your brush. the "wipe once" guideline is just that...a guideline. everyone's "touch" is different, so the best way to get the correct ratio down is to know what your bead should look like and then figure out how YOU need to get there. the attraction system requires a medium-wet mix so it should look like a wet ball of frosted glass and when you press it onto the nail and remove your brush you should be able to see an indentation in the bead breifly and then the bead will plump back up. back in college we spent countless hours picking up hundreds of beads and placing them on a piece of paper just to perfect our mix ratio, that is a great way to train yourself as long as you know what your bead should look like:) however, if you say your zone 1 is becoming too thick then it doesnt sound like your bead is too small at all, the problem might be in your bead placement or acutal application of product. NSI has great video tutorials on their website, i recommend watching them all and then watch them again and again and again.... lol

can i ask why you want to do zone one and zone 2 with one bead?
i was taught by denise wright and was taught the 3 bead method,a bead for each zone.

Hi
I seemed to have got the wrong message across. I AM currently using a bead in each zone but what I meant was that sometimes I have to use 2 beads to cover each zone! My friend says that she uses 2 beads of white to get a better smile line, ie, starting at one side and bringing it down to the centre then working back up again. Like you guys say, everyone is different. I'm sure I'll get there in the end... I hope! xx
