I really hope some geeks can help me here. I recently changed most of my polishes to OPI as I had heard good reports about them and a lot of people on here seemed to think they were great.

I have painted a couple of people's nails with the polishes (one being my mum) and they both came back to me saying that the polish chipped within a couple of days!! :irked:
I have heard some geeks get 2 weeks out of OPI polish!! What is going wrong?
Here's my treatment rundown:
file nails
1 coat of Sparitual Laquer Lock Basecoat
2 coats colour
1 coat Sparitual Immpecable Polish Shield top coat
Spray of solar speed spray.

Can anyone pick up on anything I'm doing wrong or give me some advice on how to stop the chipping?
Thanks peeps.

Hi hun I am a fan of O.P.I You have to apply it as thinly as possible in order for it to not chip. I use the start to finish base coat followed by 2 coats of polish and finish with the rapid dry top coat.
Also don't rush to get the next coat on. I usually apply the first coat of colour, tidy up my work station a bit in order to allow it to dry and then apply the second coat. I hope that helps xxx

Im a huge fan of opi also, and never have a problem with chipping that quickly. As kylieb says, try two thin coats of polish. I use seche vite top coat, its fantastic! hth x

OK you need to ensure that the nail plate is totally free of all oils prior to applying any of the polishes.

This is my order of doing things -

SAS99 - to sanitise
Bond Aid - Balance the PH of the natural nail to promote better adhesion of lacquer
either Nail Envy or base coat
2 thin coats of lacquer
top coat
Avoplex oil

I never have clients getting chips by using this method and yes polish will last 2 weeks or more.

also, do you "cap" your free edge, i dont use opi anymore, i prefer a different brand - but i do this capping no matter what polish i may use, try that, flower

couldn't agree more xxx

I use OPI in my salon but never used it myself till the other day. Was loving the 'affair in red square' colour so decided to do my nails. I put a base coat and rapid dry top coat. Unfortunately my nails were chipped after 2 days too :irked:

How did you prepare the nails prior to applying the polish?

i always aways get at least a week out of my polish, mind you i only do my own and family and friends at the min,

all i do is ,remove oils with the opi non acetone remover, 1 coat base coat, two thin colour (sometimes 3 depending on the shade) and then i leave it for about 5 mins before applying the topcoat...

and then some avoplex oil,

:)

Are you squeaking the nail plate to rid of all oils? i do this 1 nail at a time it can take a minute longer but some people's nails the oil starts coming bk(not literally but u kno wht i mean)to the nail plate before you get chance to put base coat

I'm not a nail tech so i do them as i always do them but never had a nail polish chip so quick. I will do them again tomorrow and see how they do.
I filed my nails, put cuticle oil on and tidied my cuticles. Then i washed my hands and used a 3 way buffer and buffed them, then applied base coat, 2 coats of varnish and a top coat!
I usually use Max Factor and never had a problem and this is how i always do my nails.

I am a fan of OPI and I have never had chipped polish. I use their 'Chip Skip' which is like a primer and removes all of the natural oils from the nail; then an OPI base coat, colour and the top coat. I always coat the free edge, and then every day or two I apply another top coat. I get at least a weeks wear, or more. HTHs. :green:

try squeaking them with nail polish remover to remoe the oil before you do you're nails today and see if you notice a difference?

To get the best from any product you have to use it as intended which includes the approriate preparation. So, make sure you remove all the oil prior to applying anything else to the nails. By all means oil and buff the nails first but this can't be left on the nails, not even the tiniest bit. Nail varnish remover won't always be the best way of doing this, a proper product to ensure that the nail plate is free from oils and to sanitise them is best. With OPI their product for this is SAS99. A good quality base coat is needed and as far as I know Max Factor isn't a professional product so investments here will pay off.

Then you apply your polish as you normally would with 2 thin coats, first to define the shape and second to intensify the colour. Again a quality, professional top coat, a slick of oil to prevent any fluff gathering on the polish and hey presto beautiful nails that will last you and your clients around 2 weeks.

Hope that helped.

Hi.

i've been using OPI at my salon for 4years now. i only ever use nail envy as a base coat and NEVER use their top coat-i no it sounds wierd but we find that it chips and peels if i do. we use Seche vite top coat, its really quick drying to a high gloss finish. ALso wicked if some1 smudges their nail as it smothes out imperfections in polish.

hope this helps, gemma

I always squeak mine with nail polish remover. oil under a polish will always make it chip. I sometimes get three weeks out of my polish! My feet sometimes last longer than that! xx
