Hi guys,

I have a parafin wax pedi tomorrow morning - which I dread as I have a parafin wax machine which only has a on and off button, so I never know when the temp is ok. any advice?

Do I let it melt all the way through?

do you prefer to do the full pedi, massage then wax or do you prefer wax then massage?

all help great.

thank you

d

hi the heater normally heats the wax to a safe temp(52-55c) and takes about 30 mins just check the wax on the inside of your wrist if it's too hot for you it's too hot for your client !!

Yes always check on yourself before touching the client with the wax.
For the safety of your clients, maybe it's time to invest in a good paraffin wax spa/heater with a thermostat control :)

I use paraffin wax strips to apply wax to the feet. I'm weird about the communal bath idea so I refuse to dip. I find that the wax cools while you're wrapping the foot and the strips actually help to trap heat for a little longer. I massage then wrap then a little massage after.

thank you all for the help. so am I correct in saying the heater should only take 30min.?

I had the client this morning and brushed it on, I did her feet and hands but found it very difficult to brush on it kept drying quickly and messing everywhere, and advice?

also, how long to I let the wax cool down for after the heater has been turned off?

My wax takes about 2 hours to totally melt!

As for applying the wax, for a pedicure, I wash and sanitise my clients feet, and then dip them in, you could also try decanting the wax into a bag and squishing it round the clients foot!? Some geeks like this method!

After Ive turned the heater off again it takes a good 3-4 hours for the wax to soldify, sometimes longer!

I was wondering about this too cause I havent done one yet so do you dip the foot straight into the paraffin wax bath? What do most of you find most effective? I was told to heat the paraffin wax up i the heater then remove some and put into a bowl lined with tin foil ???? not sure about this and brush on or dip in that to save throwing away all the paraffin wax from your heater cause it needs a lot in it to get to the minimum level for heating and seems a waste.

yeah they say 30-45 mins but my wax heater takes longer than that lol !! omg the panick if you have a client at 9.15 and the salon opens at 9.00 !!

I would decant some from your heated into a bowl lined with some foil and then brush onto the feet. That way it can cool down a bit first. And of course, always check the temp on your wrist first and try a little bit on them before applying. I always find if I put it on in a nice thick layer, with some foot lotion/cream on the foot first, it slides off much more easily. x

hi, i prefer to do the massage before paraffin wax, as the paraffin wax soaks up all the excess massage oil

Hi everyone, I have just done my first paraffin wax pedicure, and I was wondering the same about when to do the massage?! Also, what are the wax strips you mention? This sounds a much better idea and more hygenic? Any advice?

Thanks fellow geeks! :green:

My paraffin wax footspa takes hours to melt completely:irked: so i am going to buy asmaller parafin wax tub to use in my normal wax heater

we are taught to do the paraffin wax after the mssage, only before the massage when doing a PW facial, and yes put massage cream on before then the wax slips off easily.

Hi i am wondering how many times i can heat my paraffin wax up in the heater? If so does anyone know how much to put in to melt for 1 pedicure treatment roughly
Thanks

Me being thick just realised i need to put enough to required level anyway. So im sure i must be able to reheat. I've always been taught to use brush when applying wax so the wax isn't contaminated! I'd be nervous of dipping as it's quite hot when it's applied with brush never mind submerging feet or hands in it But then i'm a wimp.:irked:

Hi
I have bought a paraffin wax heater that was suggested for mobile and it takes 2 hours to melt completely! Which is obviously no use whatsoever for a mobile.

We are told at college to complete cuticle work, apply foot lotion, massage in lightly then apply parrafin wax from a separate bowl then massage after. Having had this done to me at college a few times I have to say I think it's lovely this way... the lotion and oil from the wax is then massaged in and it's a nice way to end before polish... IMO
