Well the response from people, mainly work colleagues, when I tell them what I am up to is one way or the other -they either say

"I know people who have done it and OMG you can make so much money doing that, brilliant"

or

"I know people who have done it and lost money and had to find other jobs, waste of time"

there rarely has been an inbetween response, its either out and out positive or out and out negative - very weird that its such a passionate response!!!

I know I have had the same response.

I think the thing is you have to work hard at creating your client list and keeping it and its one of those things that takes quite a while. I dont think that anyone could be an overnight success in this business.

Definately, trying to wade through all the ins and out is hard enough if you are serious about doing it as a full time business isn't it - a lot more to it than you originally think!

Just bizarre though how the response has been so one way or the other!

well screw them bunch of hippes who tell you that you'll fail - prove em wrong!

It does take a very long time to build a good client base or make a profit - I dont expect to be able to take even a small wage for many, many more months yet, keep at it, leaflet like your life depends on it and do your very very best. practice loads, swat up loads, and really put 100% into it.

This industry sorts the men from the boys, or the sweets from the chaff, or whatever the saying is, so go for it hun and good luck xxx

My head is swimming with nails and business stuff - I am literally dreaming about it all.

Do you find that everyone has an opinion? I do! Some people are even telling me what treatments and special offers I should be doing, these are people who have no knowledge of the industry at all!

I also find some people very patronising, I have even had people asking me why I've thrown away a proper job to do this:irked:. Well, if all my plans come to fruition, in years to come when I'm the proprieter of a successful salon, I'll be having the last laugh!

Definately everyone has opinion, especially the people who are negative about it. I actually had to walk out the coffee room at work the other day as someone was being so negative about it I thought I would **** her one if she carried on!

Yes I know what you mean, though if you manage to keep going in the business you must be a success dont you think.

Also so many people try but fail as they have not thought it through enough. They just think that all they have to do is set up a salon and the clients will come and we all know it does not work like that.

My friend set up her salon last year and it cost her £25,000 just to set everything up, which is why she could not afford to keep me on. It took her ages to get anywhere near breaking even and she had a good mobile client base to start with.

Blood sweat and tears I can foresee with my future but it will be worth the graft I can feel it.

You are right, not wasting a nail on her

Thanks hun, this site has really opened my eyes to whats involved and being surrounded here by strong and positive business women and men is such an inspiration.

Yes nothing like a bit of hard work is there. We all just need to keep going and looking to the future and what we want from our passion, be it hair, nails, skin or a combination of the three.

Dont worry about those other people, you have found something that you love to do they are just jelouse that they are going to be stuck in boring, unsatisfying jobs for the rest of their boring little lives.

SO THERE!!!!
