Hi, i am due to do a luxury pedicure on a pregnant lady tonight with gel toes - is there anything i should be extra careful of, i.e. products, or massage technique etc?
thanks

Do you know how long gone this client is in her pregnancy. If you do your pedicure on a couch with foot spa on the end of the couch you might need to check if she can sit and bend her knees for that amount of time. I think it's all about the comfort with pregnancy. Also we were always told in massage to beware of working around the ankle woth a pregnant lady , i'd be especially cautious if she is in an early stage but if she is near the end she'll probably need massage around the ankles to help with swelling etc.

HTH's

thanks, she is due end of oct, so quite a way along.

If she is within the first trimester you need to be very careful with the massage, keep it light. Otherwise just ensure her comfort at all times.

With her being that far along in her pregnancy there are a couple of things you need to be careful of. Water temp should be luke warm and if you do a massage it should be light, nothing deep tissue. And if using a whirlpool spa the jets should be turned down. These factors make blood ciruculation increase which could bring about some labor. Unless of course she wants to get that baby out!!

I have a client that has just had a baby but has had pedicures throughout her pregnancy.
She suddenly developed sensitive skin during her pregnancy and she couldn't use certain products on her skin. Just something to be aware of!

im due around that time also. as long as you prop her back slightly should be ok. i cant really bend knees for long so il probably just check with her but mainly its how she is laying. main problem would be her back..

and prop up feet slightly when finshing off or she'l end up with no feeling in feet...:)

I cant be of any help to you in this area, but i JUST had to say..

LMAO!! Too funny, wonder if that help business or hurt it???

Also check your ingredient listings for your pedi products, many contain peppermint essential oil and other various essential oils.

Don't know if this is a coincidence but when my niece was pregnant with her second child she was told that a foot massage may bring on Labour, when her due date came and went her husband gave her a foot massage and hey presto and hour later her waters broke. My daughter is due in March and i won't give her a full pedicure with massage just in case.

wish i new about the deep massage mine was 10 days late and could of done with one :) xx
