This client has been coming to me for a few months now and her nailbed is gradually getting longer. She wasn't keen on cover powders so I think there is still a way to go before getting the balance right. These are now natural nail overlays and I'm having trouble taking the sidewalls in to take away the 'flare' which seems to be how her natural nail wants to grow  Seems it's easier to do on a sculpt

These are lovely.
I do not see the flare so youve done a great job, I wouldnt hesitate to have a set of these hun.
xx

How good are you....well done on a great job. To get a nail biter to a NNO is excellent.

There are some tuts on filing techniques on here that might help.

Hiya babe,
I DO think these are lovely I personally can only really see the fan on the middle nail top hand,

When I try to get rid of a fan nail I hold the file parrallel with the sidewall...
And sort of grip it 3 fingers curl round the file...thumb on top and forefinger sticks straight out on the file,
I keep my elbow tucked into my side
I then bring down the file keeping my elbow tucked in,....
When I am happy that the sidewall is straight, I then angle the file underneath the free edge, and sort of swipe from outside in...to bring that all in with the straight edge....

Jeepers creepers, did that make sense, lol,
I have my file on my knee as I had to demonstrate it to myself step by step lmao....

I bet this is what you already do too !!! lol

Yes, I think it made sense. I think my forefinger curls round the file rather than straight out but I'll try it your way instead :)

As I said, I find it easier to shape the nail when it's all product - you can make it any shape you like, but when there is a natural nail under there which is wider than you want it is harder to get rid of. If I file away too much product I'm worried that it will start to separate from the nail as it grows down ie it loses the 'clamping' effect. Perhaps I should be narrowing the nail a lot more before applying the product at re-balance time?

Getting me thinking now

Cheers,
Hazel
