ARGHHH!

I am loosing faith in my fibreglass nails

I can apply them, and overcame my 'problem' of airbubbles under the tip... but i can't get them looking 'good':cry::cry:

They either don't buff up to a shine properly and look dull or they dont have a very good smile line.

Bearing in mind, I have only done the most of 3 nails at one time, never a full set. I have had two lessons where I actually did the practical at college.

Last night I attempted doing 3 nails on my sister, I used THE EDGE Ultra tips at first and as soon as it was blended the tip either snapped clean off or split vertically. I have now put some other tips I had in my college kit on her nails and they are okay, but i wouldnt like it if she wore the nails without polish 2 out of 3 look odd.

I'm not confident with my fibreglass at all anymore and i have my assessments starting next week :(

Any help/tutorials would be great xxx

I think it's easier doing a few at a time, less daunting.

Did you overfile the tips? Were they too small or too curved for her nails?

PS If you are doing French, why are you blending the tips?

I would love to come but I would be too scared of messing up or wrecking someone's/your/my nails  I am even loosing the confidence to do my own nail! :irked:

I am doing just ‘natural’ tips because that’s all I have learnt at the moment. I use the grit files that the procedure that college supplied says, and using the buffer that was supplied in my kit.

I could have over-filed the tip, but it looked perfectly blended but then when I tried to shape it, it just seemed to just snap off. They fitted what I thought was ‘perfectly’ they didn’t seem to be curved too much or too small. I can’t explain it. To be honest I was really pleased that it was blending so much better than usual and I was mortified when it came off.
I have damaged one of my sisters nails before, and I only did it once so I can’t be doing everything wrong now because it goes on well (when I didn’t use the edge tips) and stays on, it just didn’t look very good..

Oh and I looked at the link you left for me, but that is pretty much the same procedure I have been following. Thanks though.

Shape the tip before you blend it, then as soon as you've done the blending it's straight on with your application.

Try not to stress too much, you've not been doing fibreglass very long, but once you get the hang of it you'll be just fine.
Take up the offer of going to the salon, it'll be well worth it for you

What a great opportunity!! Go!! You will come away feeling so much better hun.

:o:o I feel totally stupid now because I know what i did wrong!!
My tutor put one on my broken nail today and I watched her do it, what i did wrong was, I tried to use tips that didnt suit my sisters finger nails and I was using the wrong grit file and accidently filed too much of the resin off

I didn't realise that 100 grit was heavier grit than 240, I thought 100 was the lightest grit :o:o OOPS! I'm so glad i'm a trainee and haven't been let loose on the public

Thanks for the help everyone. I will now hide my red face in the corner :o Don't laugh too hard!!

Never mind it happens. The bigger the number the smoother the file.
