Hi there,

I Just had a client come in.

she had been complaining her thumb nail was sore for some while now, but has just left it.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Today i took the nail off . as i was taking it off i relised her natural nail had broken on the side of the nail and have a feelin the whole natural nail will lift off?

So what i did was did a sculpture and just put acrylic over there the natural nail had broken off. there was a bit of discolouring on the nail, so advised she went and got some anti fungal cream.

have i done the right thing?
I Didnt want to scare her so i kept calm and didnt lead on how bad i really throught it was.

i told her we will let it grow out, keep doing backfills until the natural nail has grown back again.

Any advise would be appriciated! Please help i feel horrible! Shes such a lovely lady and would hate to loose her.

hi there,

just some questions....is her nail just broken a little bit on the side or the whole way across her nail? if its only a little bit on the side and it has been covered with acrylic it shouldnt still be sore...unless something has gotten in there. It might be sore due to the discolouration which might be fungal....if she treats this it should get better.

is her nail lifting? you didnt explain it very well....if it isnt lifting where the crack is then it should still be ok. Did you cover the whole nail with acrylic? If this were me and the client had some sort of fungal on the nail i would have only covered the small area where the crack was to prevent it catching and left the rest of the nail free from acrylic to be able to treat it with the fungal cream.

hi, thanks for reply, sorry i didnt explain very well.

just a little bit on the side has broken off on her natural nail, but for some reason when i took of the acrylic i just got the feeling that the rest of it could possibally come off too. - Cause, where the nail had broken, like while removing the acrylic, it did KIND OF lift, but not alot! thats just what gave me the idea that the nail could possibally come off.

Once i removed the acrylic and applied it again, the pain did go.

No, i put acrylic on the whole nail. your right! i really should haven't put acrylic back on to the whole nail.:cry::cry:

Thank you again for your help. hope this helps alittle bit more to explain whats happened.

You did fine. You can cover the whole nail with acrylic and doing so keeps everything more stable.

I doubt there is anything fungal going on. Most fungal infections are under the nail and most fungal creams are topical and need to go under the nail not on it (although there are exceptions to this they are rare).

Usually the pain goes immediately that the nail is stabilised. It seems that this has happened. If you did everything clean the break should grow out with no problems. Stop worrying.

Thank you!!

I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER!
its been on my mind all day.

Thanks again :):)

I guess time will tell.:Grope:

If the nail was green underneath, water may have seeped in. That could be a bacterial infection. Noyhing serious even though it can look bad. Putting acrylic over this is fine as long as it has been dehydrated, prepped and cleansed. Good luck!!
