Hay Hay Beautiful People...please help a damsel in distress..

I am 24 and am looking to move into the beauty industry. I am currently studying Nail Tech in my local college and I’m loving every second of it.

I know that NVQ Level 2 Beauty Therapy are the most recognised qualifications to hold in this industry so i want to enroll as I will learn everything i need to know and will have no probs getting a job etc.

So do i

A) Enroll on a private course takes 6 months to compete with practical done at college and all coursework/booklets competed at home.

or do i...

B) Join local college in Sept and go with them (takes a year)

Bear in mind there's only a £400 difference and is the NVQ Level 2 the best option?

Love you all MWAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH XXXXXX

Does the private course get you an nvq?

Yes it done hun exactly the same course

Hi I would recommend you do college then do a private course with the system you choose. You can never have enough education. Good Luck and welcome to nails.:)

Thanks a million i was scared of making the wrong decision.....

Im doing NVQ2 Beauty Therapy with my local college, it runs from Sept-June, 1 full day a week.

I have to say I have a very good tutor. We do have a lot to pack in each week and have home study, homework etc. We do theory in the mornings and practical in the aftrenoons, we are assessed throughout the year with tests at the end of each unit. I do feel we are learning a wide range of treatments

I cant comment on private courses etc, but I do feel a structured, every week class helps us all, and we can all talk to each other for continual support.

As I understand it, private courses, you go in and do a day practical and then go away practise and learn the theory and then go back for a day for an exam on both, I dont see how students can be confident doing it this way? But you can gain a NVQ with these private schools.

It depends whether you just want the NVQ Qualification or continual, structured tuition, which you'll be confident at the end of.

Hope you decide to do Beauty as it is great! good luck

Thanks Shell, you are right confidence is a big thing good thinking.

You have all been a huge help im so excited....roll on Sept.

have you ever thought about doing a btec? dont think many geeks have done this course, perhaps it is relatively new, but it's really worth investigating and considering as an option, NVQ isnt the be all and end all, it's just a different course which may or may not suit you better :)

and as the others say, you can always go on to do private training afterwards!

No i didnt think about the BTEC is there much difference between them?

yes and no - lol here is the link to the course I did at the college that I went to - The main differences I found were that Btec had smaller class sizes and more written work, as it is a science based course, but heres the link you'll probably prefer to read it yourself rather than listen to me rant on lol
Lincoln College | Course Search also you do more business and marketing etc in the btec than in nvq's, but still have a look you have nothing to lose! :)

The list of units on the website is not exhaustive - for some reason they have missed out nail technology and spa therapies, but they are included - just not on the website for some reason! :) xx

It sounds really good thanks...gunna c if any college's near me run the course.

Best to keep my options open :)

Come Sept i'll have my VCTC Nail Tech Qual so i could just APEL the credit's over.

Always a good choice best of both world and i totally agree you can get enough education.

definitely, and dont forgot that private courses arent just limited to nails, you can do product training and further training in equipment and techniques too, and if you're anything like us lot you'll always be planning another little top-up course of some kind!

HI I DID FULL TIME BEAUTY
IN MY COLLEGE I DID 3 FULL DAYS FOR 1 YEAR
THAT WAS NVQ LEVEL 2 BEAUTY THERAPY
YOU COULD ALSO DO LEVEL 3 ON THE 2ND YEAR

OR PART TIME WAS 1 DAY OVER 2 YEARS
TO GET THE SAME

BUT IT WAS FREE TO DO THE FULL TIME COURSE
AND YOU PAY FOR THE PART TIME
SO I THINK ALL COLLEGES DIFFER
LISA

i would agree with the other geeks who have already posted never have enough pratice either so college all the way:)
