I have a client ( friend of a friend ) and I did her nails for the second time last night. She has a problem with her thumb nails only, they are extremely thick, like the nail is producing too much, and she has deep groves that run from free edge to cuticle, there is slight discolouration, yellowish, and I was wondering if anyone had advice as to what this could be??
It only started about a year ago, and she hasnt changed her diet, had any illness or damaged her thumbs at all.
I used a voverage pink over her thumbs as the french I use you would see through a bit, I wish I had taken photo's, but silly me never thought of that at the time.....

thanks..

This is one for a professional podiatrist to make a diagnosis.

Many things can cause thickening of the nail plate from a fungal infestation of the nail plate to damage to general health. It is not for us as nail technicians to even attempt to diagnose a condition such as the one you describe ... that job is for a professional in that field.

Your client should seek the advice of a professional as soon as possible.

will advise her to go and get this one checked out then, thanks for advice

my mother has what I think you're describing and she had it checked by Dr's and it's NOT any sort of fungus - just some sort of damaged nail - maybe from using her hands too much in a specific way. She said it started from cuticle and up and she never had vertical lines in the nails. I have built acrylic over them to give them a "normal" look. It is only her thumbs.

We could all tell stories like this and still be no nearer to the truth which is why the lady needs to go to an expert in the field of nail disorders and diseases.
