Hi geeks, I need some help and thought if anyone can help me then you guys could.

I am in the middle of moving and in my new house I plan to set up a home salon.
However, 2 mins away is a salon that does hair and beauty. It's a real shabby shop and i even had to ask the man in the sweet shop next door if it was actually open! Its open everyday until 5pm.

I'm worried now as I'm thinking are they going to be p'd at me for getting clients in the area to come to me? As i am willing to advertise hard.

What should i do? xxx

Well if they are that shabby then good luck to you! Nothing like a bit of competition - will be interesting if they get their act together and tart themselves up a bit once you start providing a better service to their existing clients...

Business is business, if they were just hair and you had your salon up and running, do you think they would bother about hurting your business?

Competition is good for you, it may well encourage them to smarten up a bit.

im gonna be in exactly the same boat as u hun next year , im planning on doing treatments from home from my dining room once i have redecorated .There is a beauty and training salon just a few hundred metres down the road !!!!!!! (its not shabby tho lol) other than us tho there is no one else salon or home based in my area so i think this is a good thing , Nothing like a bit of competion like ruth says! Also the salon prices are really steep . Im not going to be as pricy as them but im still not gonna undersell myself . I wont be purposesly charging less tho as i feel this sends out the wrong kind of messege . I will definatly have to get a good pricing structure in place tho . Have u researched how much this salon charges ? By the sounds of things u will be providing a better all round service than they r offering so go for it chick ! looks like u have nothing to worry about!

I say go for it sweetie! Like all the other geeks have pointed out, competition is good! Plenty of salons open up within short distances of each other and they all do ok. But if they do get p'd at you who cares? As long as you arent sinking to a low level and putting them down in front of clients, you will be fine!!

I agree, go for it you are perfectly within your rights, just remember if anyone asks about that salon not to put them down as it just looks bad on you (i'm sure you know this already), I always say "oh I don't know i've never been in". hth x

Go for it why are you bothered? like someone has mentioned before do you think they would be if you was in their shoes??? NO! they wouldn't. You may find that people that come to your house for treatments may not want to go into a salon and vice versa, also a bit of competition may do them some good. People will only think if their shop is shabby then what will their treatments be like, so you go for it. :)
