Hi everyone,

My hair is awful, and by awful I mean its really starting to annoy me! The longest it has ever grown in my whole life is just below my chin. Its extremely fine, thin and wispy. Nothing makes a difference!

When I moved to where I am now I found a hairdressers. This was almost 3 years ago. On her advice, I had my hair cut really short as she said it would give it a fresh chance to grow in good condition etc... So had it chopped, the front came down at the sides (no fringe as such, sort of a slight sweep accross) and the back was very short and I used to spike it at the top back. (Hope that makes sense!) lol Well, it been about 3 years since I had it cut like that. And the length is to my ears. Thats not a lot of growth is it?! I am never going to get the long hair I have always so badly wanted am I?!

Can anyone tell me why my hair is like this and just wont grow? I dont do anything out of the ordinary. I use good products from the salon - Redken range. At the moment I am using a new shampoo they had out, its Redken Hair Advance Scalp Revive for thinning hair. Havent seen any difference. I am also using the brands Snap Off and Iron Silk.

I am getting married next year in April, and the one thing I want is lovely hair. Would it be worth me getting extensions? Would they be able to be fitted to my awful short hair?

Thanks all, sorry for the lengthy post. Hope some Geeks have some answers for me! :irked: xxx

Your hair should grow approx 6 inches a year. Maybe your hairdresser is cutting too much off each time? If growing hair longer I advise my clients to switch to 8 weekly trims.

Have you ever thought about wearing a full lace wig and giving your own hair a rest they are excellent and look just like your own hair when they are on. They can be worn for a few weeks without being taken off and very in price from vendor to vendor

Hi, she hardly takes any hair off at all, literally just a tiny trim to get all the wispy bits off!

This sounds really good, would any hairdresser sell them or do you have to go to a special place to get one?

What do you all think of these tablets you can get in health shops for helping your hair to grow? I am so desperate now!

I'm in beauty but i had the same problem.I think the front lace wig is an excellent idea as it would let your hair breathe and give it a break from straightners, hair dryers etc. I had the same problem a few years ago and i just use extensions now. I took sea kelp for a while and my hair did thicken up i just didnt take it often enough to notice a real diffence. I hope you find a solution as its so unfair when you want long thick hair and you just aint got it!!!! I used to get so upset about mine!

You are so right! Are extensions expensive? Do you have to have them replaced every few months or something? I remember hearing last year or something that they cost about £600 and you need to get them replaced every few 3-4 months. Is this right? I could no way afford that!

You can purchase the full lace wigs from quite a few places over the internet but in my experience I would rexmommend finding a vendor who specialises in custom made ones as this will be made perfectly to fit your own head. I purchase one and it wasn't a custom made one although the vendor did fit if for me and it was fantastic for the first day and then it started slipping at the back. I just put this down to it not being a custom made unit. I think it was too small for my head. I did manage to take it off and wash it and then refit it myself, the problem was I felt like it kept peaking at the top of my head. In the end I sold it on ebay. But they look fantastic on and I would highly reccommend these custom made full lave wigs. It will give your own hair a bit of a rest and will still grow. All you can do is to try one.

As for hair extensions if your hair is really thin and short then hair extensions probably would not help.
