Just need a bit of advice . . .

I've just applied a set of nails to one of my hands, I applied white tips, one thin layer of clear builder gel, then another thicker building layer of cear builder gel, I then filed it to the right shape, wiped it with cleanse, then I put a thin layer of finish clear and set a couple of rhinestones in it and cured for 2 mins, when I took it out it was shiney, I then wiped with cleanse and it had dull patches, so I applied another thin layer and cured etc, but this was also dull in some areas . . . .is it possible Im applying it too thin?

I didnt want to add another layer, so I've just topcoated them to keep them shiney.

But for future reference, should I apply it a bit thicker? or is it something else Im dong wrong?

My nails will be ok though they weren't shiney wont they?

Any advice would be much apprecated . . . :)

Things like such as a patchy appearance can be a result of undercuring. Make sure your bulbs are up to date ones. Make sure you are using the right lamp too for y our system and no some generic lamp.

Also patches that are dull can be caused by a contaminant on the surface of the nail such as oil where you may have touched the surface with your fingers when filing.

Did you leave the inhibition layer on the nail when adding your second coat? It makes for a more even coverage if you do.

Thats happened to me a few times. I use glaze n go now, thats lovely and shiny!

Yes, you can apply Finish Clear too thin. Try applying a little thicker and if that doesn't work, reference Geeg's post about other potential causes of a dull, patchy finish.

I have had this happen to me also, but I think it was the finishing gloss, I didnt like this so I now use NSI Glaze n Go and wow, very shiney. Switch to that and im sure you wont have any problems. Abi

Another thing to consider also which I have had happen, is sometimes if you use to high a grit, the surface is too smooth and that can cause like pooling leaving dull patches...
Also Make sure your clients aren't messing about with their hands before applying the finish clear, because I have had them running hands through their hair or rummaging in a bag with one hand as I am filing the other, getting allsorts of contaminates on the surface of the nail ( make up too grrrrrrr)

I always say now, Right if you could just leave that hand there for me for a moment please, Or If I know my client is 'fidgety' I will refine the shape, apply uv top coat, and pop that hand straight in the lamp, then move onto the next.
