Hi

I must say this a hundred times a day!!! Why do some clients refuse to relax there hands i dont know about you guys but it makes it so much harder to do my job when they keep tensing, and tips or phrases to get them to chill. :irked:

I have a few like this too...stiff as a board. I shake there hands a little and say.."just relax your hands for me"

I also have the other kind.... that try and help too much and move there hands all the time to a place that they think will be better for you....NOT

I had just started painting the white on and the client moved her hand to another position and said "is that better for you"....no cos now i have to wipe this off and start again !!!

I am LOL reading your post as I know exactly what you mean!

My mom is the absolute WORST when it comes to this. I keep telling her to relax (she doesn't). I gently shake her hand to remind her (it doesn't work). In the end, my hands and back are killing me.

But, she's my mom (she's probably paying me back for all the times I didn't listen to her...LOL!), so I let it go.

If you elevate the client's arm by resting it on a rolled towel or round cushion, it helps enormously to relax the hand as it is hanging and the client cannot push it or tense it as easily.

it's kinda like when they slap their spare hand down on the forearm you are applying to, or painting (and wobbles everything), yet they think that relaxing.

Another one of my pet hates, sometimes I think they should be strapped down.

It drives me MAD when they "try to help"
It also annoys the living daylights out of me when they are "trying to see" and tilting their fingertips towards the ceiling.
(last I checked, I was being paid to SEE what I was doing!)

Or when they are trying to guess what hand you want, and you're trying to reach for it, and playing tag as they wave their hands about, undecisive?

I keep telling them " when you're sitting here, those are mine and just let them lay like jello, limp like a rag, and I'll take the one that I want". If they're super stiff, I joke and say "there's nothing in my contract that says I have to do cadavers" then I jiggle their hands.

Hi i have not stopped laughing at all of your comments i can relate to all of them. For me the worst is when they are trying to see what you are doing it breaks me and again when they always start to fidget when you are doing the smile line. Thanks for the tip about elevating the hand i try and let you know how i get on...x:lol:

I used to be the one shaking their hands, telling them to relax etc, but now i just grab their hand and pull it towards me and put it where it is easier for ME.

I have put up with the aching back and neck from straining to get to a clients hand as they have gradually pulled it towards themselves. Now, most of my clients let me have their hand and relax more.

Only the new ones have to be trained to be loose, stop moving and give me their dam hand!

I stop and stroke their forearm gently for a moment and it seems to do the trick. I also elevate and I keep a warming pad on the table. The warmth seems to really help as my corner can be a bit chilly when the a/c is cranked up for the hairstylists. Also, I talk to them and ask questions (with my head down, of course) and that helps distract them.
