Scared to do intimate waxing

I'm level 2 trained and waxing has been one of my favourite treatments. I have lots of clients recommend me and my business is really growing. I've not been asked for Hollywood or Brazilian that often but thought that it would advance my skills and menu.

I did a college day course a couple of weeks ago with GiGi - was really happy but (due to the lack of organisation by the college) we didn't have enough models so the trainer had to have a treatment done. We didn't get that much instruction about the lip and bum area. I did a free treatment yesterday (I like to be super confident before I offer treatments at cost) and it went horrifically! The client was super hairy and had coarse hair but I need to be prepared and competent in that. It took 2 hrs - please don't laugh! I was professional but I was dying inside. The lip area was the worst - I was so lost and I wasn't sure how far to go into the bum area - right in???

I was meant to do a free Brazilian today but I've cancelled as my confidence has completely gone

Dont be too harsh on yourself! We've all been there! My main thing that i will say is the wax will make you feel competent. I switched from using some generic variety of hot waxes to perron rigot and havent looked back. I flip between using homme, euroblonde and intimate 4. This wax is superior. even on the lowest setting it gets every hair out, and minimises the pain associated with waxing! good luck and sending hugs! xoxo

I was exactly the same as you and offered so many free treatments. I also had my examiner as a model - she was guiding me using a mirror. Still now I can take 45 minutes on a really hairy client makes me a bit flustered but you just have to soldier through. I use PHD wax not hot wax so this is different to what you might be using. Yes I go in as far as possible and try to get every hair, but I do not get my clients on all fours! Just same position as a normal bikini then turn around laying flat. I personally find it easier this way. Hope you get there soon. Im sure the models do not mind how long you take if they know you are newly trained and its a free/discounted treatment. Everyone starts somewhere, no one can do it in 15 minutes straight away.
Also I start at the bottom and work up so the longer hairs don't get tangled x

I use Adam and Eve hot wax as I also found the generic waxes a pain. The wax was bringing the hair out great but it showed my lack of technique in the labia area. I was confident in all other areas. I don't want to ask anyone to have it done now - feel I need to be shown again to feel confident! Feeling low

My thoughts.

Unless you have a video you can watch or go for further training, I don't know that it's going to get better. I know so many people who have done intimate training and just not done the treatment because they lack confidence.

You have 2 options. You keep going on clients without charging, you go back to your training provider and ask for support or (okay this is 3 options) you bite the bullet and pay for further training.

Sadly I think that people pay for training thinking one foo foo waxing technique is the same as another but it's not. After all, how many ways can there be to wax it?

There are geeks on here - one I know of in Ireland, who had trained in intimate, hated it and went to see Kim Lawless and is now a proficient foo foo waxer. I trained with Kim and did three full Brazilians 2 days later. Cloughers on here is making it her business.

If you want to do it again, go and see Kim or someone recommended on here. Mastering a Brazilian is like an art and I can knock them out in 30 minutes which makes for great profit and you become known for fab foo foos.

Don't be disheartened but please don't throw good money after bad.

I would also add that I had a few labia issues and Kim was immediate to answer with advice. If you're totally confident elsewhere, go back to your trainer x

Totally agree. Training and good wax is everything. Once you are confident in yourself you'll be fine but you need to know what you're doing in the first place. I would definitely recommend Kim's training, it's totally changed my business and Brazilians and Hollywoods are what I do all day now. Love it!

You will walk out confident because you have learned a technique that works always... it doesn't matter how much or how little hair the client has - her method always works - I remember this oh god feeling I used to get like you when I was faced with extra hair - since training with Kim Ive never felt that - just follow her technique its works amazing, I love waxing and since training I have chopped lots of stuff off my menu and focusing on the Brazilians - go for it - its worth every penny and more

Thanks so much ladies. I was intending to attend Kim's course and can't believe I got talked into attending college! Fortunately, it was cheap so I'm not upset. I know there are lots of techniques in beauty but waxing feels like one of those treatments that can go horribly wrong and you can really hurt the client (especially down there!! )

I will find out when Kim is in Manchester and get booked.

Practise makes perfect! The more you do, the more confident you'll become. Don't worry about timing. Your speed will pick up, the more waxing you do. Clients prefer a thorough job with attention to detail rather than a quick wax on, wax off job. Keep on waxing, you'll get there!

I think I'm the Irish geek who trained with Kim

And i was terrified of Brazilian waxing, I had done the basic course, then i had training in Ireland with a high end company and still wasn't confident !!! So i bit the bullet , travelled to london to kim and she put me on the right track walked out of there and with in the week was proficient and confident at carrying out Brazilians I also changed my wax to Perron Rigot and think this made a big difference too

That was just over a year ago now, wow time has flown. I've just opened my own specialist waxing salon here in Cork with Brazilian waxing as my specialist treatment and its going really well. Don't be afraid to pay for good training , it will last you lifetime and its made my career for me

Confidence is King! Learn a good technique and 'act' confident until you become confident.

Also, ask yourself if you really want to do intimate waxing. Although every client that walks in my room has intimate waxing and I love it, I really do appreciate that it's not for everyone. If it's just a case of you not feeling comfortable waxing intimate parts then take it off your price list and you won't have to stress. That's fair enough. However, if you only lack confidence because of technique then get some good training.

My first brazian took me an be and a half, lucky it was my friend and she has the thickest, coarsest hair and the biggest follicles ever! Luckily she came back a.d I've waxed her about 9 times now, her hair is still the same but it takes 25 mins now. A few things that have helped me are getting a fan for the warm days as sometimes the wax takes forever to set also don't be afraid to ask people to hold skin eg. Thighs, bellys out the way if you need to and make sure you always leave a lip to pull even if you need to go bk for extra wax x

It is so much easier using comfort hot wax around the lip and bum area are you trained in hot wax? I didn't like doing them at first as it was daunting but stick with it and practice practice practice. It's worth it once your confident as its a huge money maker! I charge £44 for a hot wax hollywood and it takes me on average 20minutes and £39.50 for a brazilian (playboy). Good luck
