Hi Geeks

I did my first set of sculpt nails on a client at the weekend and she has phoned me up today saying that a couple of them have snapped off near the free edge. I asked her what she was doing when they snapped and she said that she was just getting some paper out the printer when they broke !!!

Any advice please :)

At the risk of sounding cheeky .. they weren't built strong enough, love.

Structure is everything and nails need a central apex ... in other words a backbone of thicker product down the center of the nail.

It takes one hell of allot to break an enhancement that is built correctly. You need to be doing this with good brush technique.

Can I suggest you purchase a copy of 'nailclass' by gigi rouse? All is described in there about what to do to build structurally sound nails.

Yep i totally agree, a strong 'backbone' down the middle makes the nail so much stronger.

Can i please ask what product you are using?

I agree with Geeg, although clients are responsible for their nails and do break them sometimes...they should be able to withstand a certain amount of pressure.

You only need a slight week spot for the whole nail to snap off....it also helps if you don't make the nails too long...something clients can often ask for but isn't suitable for their lifestyle.

Just another thought, were your forms applied correctly? Were they snug to the underside of the free edge?

If they weren't then you will have a definate weak area for the sculpted free edge to simply snap off as your product will have seeped inbetween the form and the underside of the free edge, leaving little product where it's needed for strength. Be wary of this as it could also be an over exposure issue.
