Should I specialise in makeup, advice wanted please!

Hi Guys

I am due to complete my NVQ Level 2 in makeup in 2 weeks time and want to go on to complete my NVQ Level 3 in Makeup and work as a free lance makeup artist.

I am also interested in the beauty therapy courses but can not afford to do both. I would love to have your advice, do you think i would be better of broarding my skill set by taking a beauty therapy course in September or do you think their is enough work out their for me to start my NVQ Level 3 in makeup and specialise in makeup and become a succesful freelance artist.

I would love to specialise in just make up and be a make up artist full time, but being in the midlands you are limited to the amount of make up work that is out there. I have started out this last year really promoting the that side of things and yes i have made some great contacts and interesting work but its not what i call full time. Another reason why i did eyelash extensions as something different to offer.

Dont want to put a downer on make up its great but you really have to get out there to find the work.

I did a short courses locally in different types of make up, would love to maybe study at a Make up School like Greas Paint or Brushstrokes one day to learn special effects etc, but that would most definately involve moving down sounth.

The type of work i get at the moment being in the east midlands is a lot of bridal, which if you can travel i have taken bookings as far as warickshire and the west midlands.

Mostly bridal, prom and i have now made lots of contacts with photographers form wedding fayres and i do a lot of makeover shoots.

Hi - I love makeup too but living in London i think offering a range of services is better - the more you're qualified to do the wider range of clients you will make - why don't you think about doing some other beauty treatments and using the money you earn from these to take the specialist makeup course - kill 2 birds with 1 stone!!
