I completed a CND Foundation course in April and am starting an NVQ 2 in Beauty Therapy in September. The course will take me 2 years to complete as its part time and I currently work full time in an office (yawn!). My dilemma is I dont know whether to start my mobile business now and just offer nail enhancements and eventually manicure and pedicure (I'm planning on taking the CND course over the summer) so I can build up my client base, then once my 2 years is up at college add beauty treatments to my treatment list and leave my dull PR job for good (woo hoo!!). Do you think I should do this or am I just being really impatient?? xx

Well if I was you I would go for it, but I have always been impatient :) But seriously, yes I would go for it, you will be using skills you have learnt, so you wont be going rusty while waiting, and as your learning new skills, as long as you inform your insurance what courses you are taking you can incorporate those in as well as you get trained and confident. hth:hug: x

mid cheshire college do nvq2 as a 1 yr part time course. i will be doing it nxt year to fill in the quals i dont have

I didnt even think of insurance!!! also as I am not that experienced I'm not sure how much I should be charging??

I will be going to Deeside as it is right by where I work in Ewloe so its easier for me to get to. I did look at Mid Cheshire but it would be cutting it fine with getting there, I dont want to be the unreliable late student now!!

I qualified with CND in April and began renting a room in May, I havent looked back ....

If you feel ready GO FOR IT !

Good luck xx

Ooh you have to have insurance if your working on the general public, even friends and family chick. I'm with The Guild but there are a few others if you put a search in for insurance you will find plenty of info.
If your not sure what to charge mb charge a trainee rate to start off till you get more confident. Try to rope in friends and family, also do you have a training hand they are invaluable and they don't get fed up or moan at you if you do something wrong, and hopefully any mistakes you make you will make on Widget..that's my hand name lol.xxxx

Great question Pinkmurphy, I have just completed Level 2 Beauty Therapy and am going on to do Level 3 and am not really sure what to do but I am thinking about setting up and doing the treatments that I am qualified to do, around college and try and build up a client base for when I am fully qualified.
I would recommend to go for it with the nails and good luck with your level 2

What she said:up::up::green:

I'm doing a similar thing. As long as you only do the things you are qualified for, you'll be fine. I've applied for a part time beauty therapy course, and do the odd client around my office job (yawn, cry with frustration, yawn some more) to keep my skills up.

As also said by someone else, I have a training hand, got mine off ebay, they're by creative or essential nails, got all the joints of a real hand, and very worth while. You can practise any time you like.

Good luck honey:hug:

I would definitely get your insurance sorted and then get going now. There's no point waiting until your college course is finished, when you could be out there building a client base now. Besides, if you wait until college is over you might have forgotton or lost confidence with the nails, you don't want to get rusty. I think you should go for it girl!!!

As long as you feel capable of working and finishing college, I would start doing nails asap!.... Just make sure you finish college

Book a skills workshop or two with your CND educator - Extra training makes a huge difference to both your skill and confidence.... worth every penny.

Pricing - check out prices in your area - all prices - highest to lowest and go somewhere in between to start with.

I am with ABT (Associated Beauty Therapists) for my insurance.
When I joined them in May, I got a free subscription to Scratch with my policy.... can't see it mentioned on the site, so might be worth calling them direct.
APPLY ONLINE. Associated Beauty Therapists - ABT UK. Bringing together brand leaders from all areas of the beauty and holistic industry.

Do a search for insurance on this site - there has been loads of talk about it.... they are all different - so you have to find the one which is right for you.

Why do you say eventually add manicure and pedicure? Surely you need to be qualified in basic manicure skills to of been able to do your enhancement training? If not then i wouldnt go working on the public. You definatly need some insurance aswell. it took me about 2 years to build a decent client base and lots of hard work and long hours you need to be well motivated and always looking for ways to draw clients in you will find your clients will come from word of mouth eventually but it takes time. Good luck in your new venture x:lol:

It was a complete beginners course with Sweet Squared in Nail Enhancements and I am booking the Manicure and Pedicure courses as soon as I get the dates back from them. I'm not going to start up doing clients until I have the basic nail treatments under my belt and I'm looking to use CND so I need to get my certificates before I can buy my products etc.x

Thanks for everyones responses!! I'm definately going to get insurance first and foremost - cannot believe I didnt think of that how crazy am I!! Training hand is definately another good idea although I do have lots of friends to practise on I think if I get a hand I'll be able to take my time and perfect my technique without worrying that the person infront of me is getting bored!! thanks again! xx
