It depends sometimes the opportunities and training you get from the likes of Aofm are amazing , with aftercare and working with some of the industries finish is invaluable , where as some of the college courses you are getting trained by a beauty therapy tutor etc . I know several working makeup artists that are excellent without any formal training or qualifications also. So if you have a natural flair and an understanding of the hygiene procedures then you may not need any, it's really Down to the person.

As for kit , it takes a long time to build up a good kit. I bought it little by little . I started of with a few mac f&b foundations that I would mix , urban decays naked palette and a few bits and bobs from ELF , and the more paid work I got I just upgraded and added . If its for photographic work I would nt bother too much about having high end brands, sleek and mua are both excellent value and quality for working on shoots . But when I comes to bridal most brides do expect to see high end brands if you are charging the going rate , obviously your price reflects partly the products used, experience , location etc .

Phew! Took a while to find a makeup show off thread but I knew there would be one. Have posted a couple of times but thought I'd introduce myself with a recent-ish photo shoot I did for a new brand. Going for a grungy, edgy look with avant-garde brows! It will be lovely to chat with other MUA geeks, there's lots of lovely work in this thread :) xx

So I have to ask, how do you store all your makeup??
I'm in the process of building an acrylic storage empire in my bedroom! (Inspired by the kardashians makeup cube).
I was using one of the Roo trolley/ rucksack on wheels, which has torn due to the sheer strain of my collection

I use a roo emerald case on wheels too, I recently bought a zuca but could nt get all my kit in it so was a total waste of time , I have had my roo for a few years now tho and needs replaced but I believe roo have discontinued them, and you can still get them on amazon but I have heard a lot of people that have bought them recently have had problems with them. I think it ll be one of those suitcases on 4 wheels and lots of clear plastic pouches for me next .

In the house I am the same I have lots of acrylic drawers .

Is the Zuca really that small or is it because you were trying to put literally your whole kit in it?

No this was just my basic bridal kit , and I have deppotted and minimised till the cows come home. Maybe I do carry too much but to much but to me it was just my essentials .

However I do know many mua that love the zuca

Just your bridal kit filled the Zuca?! Wow. Maybe I won't get a Zuca then!

I'm sure loads of people will disagree but it was nt for me and my much cheaper roo case did the job better and is a very similar idea but had the added extras of a detachable rucksack on the front , you could also use the case like a backpack if you wanted , and lots of little pockets in the inside that fit eyelashes etc perfectly .

I have the Roo Emerald already, I was just planning ahead for when I can no longer use it as I know they no longer make them.

Can any of you ladys recommend any good make up videos etc to watch in youtube etc? Or people to subscribe too? I am hoping to go in a make up course later in the year but i love you tube for nails so just wondering wether there is any good make up ones. X

I'm the same lol

There's loads I follow on youtube. All the ones that emzil16 mentioned are great.

I can watch make up videos for hours!! I have found loads through the beautylish app. You can just browse video tutorials. I've found lots that I've subscribed to through there.

I second Lisa Eldridge, she is fab, and a less well-known one (on Youtube, she's actually done a LOT of industry work unlike some of the 'gurus') is Mila Victoria :)

My first couple of photo shoots xx
