i have a client for friday and have only done a handful of spraytans on my family. I have been trained with fake bake but brought sienna x as liked the retail idea. However i use a barrier cream on hands and still nails walls and sides of hands are slightly orange. Should i use any petrolum on nails and side of hands as well as barrier cream ? any tips would be so helpful ,,

Hey
i've been using sienna for ages an I rarely use barrier cream only on very dry areas but I have to say never used it on hands, never had orange palms unless client has touched themselves, as for nails only thing I've found is certain gels can turn orangey on nails but never had natural nails or nail beds go orangey, only think I can suggest is ur spraying too close to hands. After spray tanning u could wipe over ur clients nails with a wet wipe careful not to wipe fingers. I'm quite puzzled by this one.

On the nails just paint them in clear varnish. I usually tell my clients to do this before to stop the nails from staining (saves you time)
I dont use barrier cream but I think it is a good idea to do this until you are confident enough not to.

The sides of the hands are most probably going orange because you are spraying to much on there. You want to ease off your gun and pull away in these areas. So that it just coats it with a fine mist. As for nail walls...i would say the same. You are putting too much solution here and maybe spraying too close? xxx

its not the nail is self is the nail wall that turns a it orangey, in my training with fake bake i was trained to do 3 strockes down front of hand then put into a pray postion to do thumbs and side f hand but not sure if this is to much product usuage for sennax. do u spray hands when using senna ? if so how many times ?:?:

Hi,
i was taught to show the client their hands after the treatment so they can see how pink they are. Then if their hands become stained then it is their own doing. it is impossible to not touch your face, even i do it :D

For hands I spray down the arm and as i get to the wrist I pull my gun back slightly. I do this 3 times to cover the hand. I have my clients hands in a claw position.
For the sides of the hands - I will make sure I get this when I spray my client from the side.

I hope that helps? xxx

Thanks for that advise, i will do it in 3 strokes down the arm on to hand like you have suggested. i feel a bit better now. also do you use senna x barrier cream on palms of hand and on nails ?..

I very rarely use barrier cream. The only way it should get on palms is if your client touches their skin, which doesnt happen because I make it clear that they shouldn't.
I paint the nails in clear varnish if they dont have some on already.
But if you would feel better using it huni then go for it!! A little goes a long way remember so you wont need much! xxx

I was trained by Fake Bake and believe that this technique was introduced in their training some time after.

Having been sprayed myself and then spraying someone else using this technique, I'm afraid I didn't like it at all and stopped immediately for two reasons. Firstly, larger ladies will squash their ****s together putting their arms and hands into this "pray position". Not good when freshly sprayed. Secondly, it encourages you to spray far too much solution down the sides of the client's hands which really isn't necessary.

I get great results on hands by using the Less Is More approach with Fake Bake; spraying around 10 inches away rather than my usual 5-6" away, three strokes on clawed hands, with an extra/light mist over the thumbs and sides if necessary. I also use a Fake Bake soft buffing mitt to genty buff around the inside of the wrists. This gives the client a little extra to their otherwise very quick treatment, and ensures perfect and natural-looking wrists (rather than the tell-tale "cuff" that I see all the time where the spray tan just abruptly ends at the wrist).

The Less Is More approach is not suitable for Aviva Express though, the other solution I use. More is most definitely required, sprayed at the same distance as the rest of the body, or a pebbledashed result occurs.

xx

thanks for all your advise. I will not be spraying my clients hand the way i was trained with fake bake any longer. you have been a massive help.:D

Hi I did my training with sienna x and the way they say to do the hands is to leave them until nearly the end then spray in a circle over each hand from a little further away, the same with the feet. I can honestly say i have never had anyone go orange in any way shape or form anywhere on their body whilst using sienna the only thing im finding at the mo is that for some clients it just doesn't go dark enough hth xx.
