my smile lines are crap!!! im getting so stressed out, all i do is practice, read nailclass, practice, read nail class, bang my head against a wall and throw a strop! im taking up a medium size white bad, placing it above where i want smile line to be, letting it rest for 2 secs and then gently pushing it up and to the right, then to the left, lightly smooth it out over tip, sometimes it looks wicked othertimes rubbish, im losing the will to live!!! HELP!!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

its just takes time hun.

I still get this, when i start on one hand you can guarentee the first ones are hit and miss and the last fingers are awsome!! LOL Mine always look fine once i have filed the free edge which always looks a bit messey on mine and smoothed over they all look good but you can definitely see an improvment along the fingers (well i can see anyway, clients dont thank god!)

The other trick i was taught was to get some tips and using a marker on the underneath draw three dots. Onw each side and one in the middle to act as a dot-to-dot guide for you smile lines and then practise, practise, practise

If sometimes they look wicked then there is no need to slit your throat just yet. :green:

Keep practicing those perfect ones (look at my signature at the bottom of the page).

Soon they will all look wicked.

Thankyou for advice, im finding nailclass very helpful Gigi and is my bible at the moment!!! back to practicing on my trusty long suffering boyfriend who lets me use his nails!!!

You can give your long suffering boyfriend a rest

Pencil in a smile on the back of a tip and apply your product to the tip which you hold in your fingers. Easy and you can do 20 or thirty in no time and really get your 'eye' in and the right rhythm going. If you are using your boyfriend, then you are not doing nearly enough practise (unless he has more than 10 fingers!!)

You can also use the "bluetac finger trick" Roll up a sheet of bluetac until it resembles the size of a finger and then push a tip into the bluetac and down onto the end of the 'finger' and practise away!

I can echo Geeg's advice. I have very little 'human' practice how ever I have used 100's and 100's of tips for practice. You can blue tac them to a pencil, bluetac fingers work well, cheap forms on polish bottle lids can also be practiced on. I snip some of the tips I practice on when I have finished to gauge how I am applying the product too. Its also been a good way for me to get the thickness down and minimise filing which is much kinder to my own nails and anyone elses

cool, excellent idea, feel happier now, i think i was also making my brush to flat so when i picked up a bead it was hard to shape once it was on the tip as it was a long bead if you know what i mean, i found that once i didnt make it so flat i picked up a good bead and it was easier to control, plus my 2 year old went to nursery which helped even more..................peace and quiet!

I concur on the 3 dot trick. Katie Ellison taught me this on my 121 at the weekend & its starting to "click" with me. give it a whirl its helping me & im practicly usless lol xx

I will vouch for the 3 dot method,,,,,also aim for a V and you will get U,,iygwim. xxxx kate

Try to place the bead NOT on the smile line would to be, just a little bit under. So when you start to push down, and to the right, and to the left, it can move up a little, so you wont need to draw hard lines in the smile line with your brush.

thanks everyone for advice, i dont feel like a failure anymore, so annoying when you just wanna be brilliant at what you do!!! x
