Hello fellow techs,

Im really stressed out and don't know what to do ! this might be long..

I finished working in a salon the end of september, i handed in my notice didn't tell any clients i was going as i didn't want to be seen as stealing client (even though i was self employed).

Im trying to build up my clients but am getting slated by the salon owner on facebook for all sorts of nasty things i.e stealing pictures that i took of my work on my camera!! she is saying my nails don't last that my work is bad even though my client go for 4-6 between apps and never have any problems.

The lastest one is she has posted some gross fungal infection on facebook and said i have caused it even though it's been 9 weeks since i did any work for her !!!!!
How can i stop her slander she is breaking me before i've even begun :(

Sounds like a job for the police hun. So they might just go and have a word with her but it would show her you not standing for it.

i already called them they said they do anything and i tryed a solicitor :(

If you have evidence from Facebook this is libel. This is totally unprofessional. Contact a solicitor or at least Citizens Advice. Whatever you do, do not respond on Facebook

im not freinds with them myself but some of my clients are and freinds of mine this is how i know !! i would report them to fb straight away, they have been warned about bullying on fb before from other former employees i can't believe she could be so nasty and horrible just because i left !

That is slander, and you can have her for it.

Definetly speak to Citazens Advice, brilliant people and they helped me with my OH old work, so I knew exactly where we stood.

thanks ladies i feel a bit better im gld i posted , i will call the cab tomorrow maybe they can send a letter out ..

And if you can keep screen grabs of what she's posted, facebook is public.

press control and the print screen on what you want, then open a word document and edit on the toolbar and paste.

hth's

You have quite a strong case here if you choose to take this to court, get as many print screens as you can showing what they have said. Its defamation of character for a kick off.
Then seek the advice of a local employment law specialist. Most lawyers have a free consultation offer to give you the info you need to proceed should you want to.
Please don't take this lying down, take action as it sounds like you're not the first and won't be the last unless you nip this in the bud.

Good Luck and let us know how you get on. xx

What a vile purile little person - whilst its upsetting i personlly wouldnt touch another salon that publicly bad mouthed another -

not only is it unprofessional its also down right nasty and just shows your previous boss up for what she is

- the only person thats gonna come out of her looking worst in the long run is her.

there are lots of open minded people hun - and there are always 2 sides to every story - i think the majority of reasonable people will bear that in mind when reading her disgusting comments.

meant to add - there may also be a case for harrassment here - but whatever you do - DO NOT REPLY
just send her one message saying - would you please leave me alone and stop sending / publishing degorotory statements.

once you have done that and she continues you have a valid case for harrassment. (also blocking her from facebook will also help your case )

i don't have her on face book my clientsd have told me , it is upsetting and what makes it worse is that i always tell people what fantastic nails they do :(

This is why I'm a member of the FSB; you get legal cover as part of the membership.

Even if you have to pay for a solicitor it would be worth it as the damage she is undoubtedly doing to your business could be substantial.

It's worth pointing out that she won't be doing her own business any good either. People will be very disparaging about her tactics, and see the unprofessionalism in it.

I agree with what Lynne has said here.

You have 2 choices really, you can either sit it out and let her get bored, your ex clients know what your work is like anyway. Or you could pay a solicitor to write to her and tell her to cease this slanderous behaviour!

It is upsetting and unfair of her to do this and I am sure I can speak for everyone on here when I tell you that we will all support you so please do not feel alone.

Concentrate on building your business, you would be surprised that not everyone goes on Facebook let alone takes any notice of what is said on there! You would have to be her friend on there to see what she is saying and if you are a friend of hers then you will know what she is like.

Make your mind up what you want to do and get on with building your business! :green:

Just to add ... if you were working self employed, then you had every right to tell every client, privately, that you were leaving or to contact them all personally through your client record cards info and tell them you have moved.

The clients do not belong to the salon if you are self employed, they belong to your business.

Sounds a very stupid woman, and if your clients know you and trust you they will not take any notice at all.

Morning ,

Thank you so much ladies i really supported by you all, up untill now i have felt really low !

Yes i was self employed but she made it so we all felt employed,
she will damage herself in the process after sleeping on this im feeling that she wants me to text her or respond in some way so she she can play out the victim in the salon as she has done so many times before!!

As for her clients they get involved one of the reason why i left ,i love my job i want to give my clients the best service i possibly can without the hassel of an ex boss giving me grief !!

They are so busy i can't see how me working in a differant part of thanet is going to effect them in any way .

Thanks again for all your support xx

I can give you a definitive answer here as not only am I a beauty prof, but also a qualified (and practicing) criminal solicitor :)

Firstly slander is oral, libel is written- but they are not 'crimes' therefore the police won't help.

However, what's been touched upon lightly above here is harassment- I'm afraid your fighting a losing battle there too on the whole. Harassment is action which is INTENDED to cause alarm or distress. The problem with FB is YOU don't have to look at it so therefore if you didn't look at it, it wouldn't affect you directly. I know it's hard not to, but try to forget it. She WILL get bored and frankly if she has the time and inclination to be doing all that in her FB not only is she sad, but her business is hardly thriving and she is just making herself look bad.

Your best remedy is to contact FB directly- they WILL remove malicious content. Also if you can prove photos are yours, they'll remove them from her page(s).

It's upsetting when people are malicious I know, but it's because they're so sad and pathetic. It's jealousy really - she sees you as a threat so take it as a back handed compliment :)
