I have only just started submitting my website to some free sites, and the next morning before I had even woken up I had several missed call on my mobile. Its a new sim card and I havn't given it to anybody yet apart from entering it on the web. None of the numbers appeared to be from anywhere near where I live (Newcastle) and I had no messages left. One of the numbers did the same thing today, really early in the morning before I was even awake.

So I've searched all the numbers on the net and loads of people have been getting calls from the same numbers, apparently they're phone scams, and some of the stories seem a bit dodgy. I'm a bit annoyed that in the space of 8 hours after submitting my number that I already had 9 different numbers calling, and lots of others are being harrassed constantly. I havn't even had any new customers ring yet lol.

How many of you out there have had a problem with this? And does it die down?

I get it regularly and it does go through phases..... I ignore them, they never leave a message and they do die down - only to start again!

I have had the same problem after submitting my details to sites as well as lots of calls trying to sell me amazing packages 'guaranteed' to get me to the top of google searches if I pay hundreds pounds a year (packaged under the sales pitch lf "if is a small monthly fee which will pay for itself after one client")! A polite "no i am not interested do not call me again" often works or if I fancy a bit of fun winding the cold callers up I ask then a million and one questions which I know will show the service for what it is - paying someone to do something which can actually be done yourself and is not particularly time consuming or complicated!

I found I was often inundated when I first started when I advertised on Gumtree. What free websites are you currently registered with?

yes i get it all the time offering me the 'best' advertising as the 'best' rates i just say no or put the phone down if they carry on

lol .. just when i posted this i got two in the space of 10 minutes

I had only done freeindex, hotfrog and qype, and that was at about 4 in the morning! By 8 I had all the missed calls!

Wow Magik that is super quick!! I mut say I never received calls so early in the morning - surely they cannont legally contact you at such unreaonable hours? I have registered with freeindex and qype - though I think many of the calsl I received were definitely following ad I posted on Gumtree.

I know freeindex are quite good at weeding out companies that use their site to obtain details to cold call businesses listed on their site so it may be worthwhile contacting them with the telephone numbers from which you received the calls.

Off course you can always block the number from your phone (if it has this functionalty).

If you go into the website

www.whocallsme.com

and then put in the number that has called in the search box they usually come up with the company that has been contacting you. We seem to get yellow pages phoning us up a lot.

One if the numbers keeps ringing constantly, every day, and has rang three different times today, which I havnt answered. When I searched the number it appears to be yellow pages related. Quite annoying realy, if I had wanted to advertise with them or yell I would have. And the reason I didnt is that I dont want my address there.

And theres me getting all excited when the phone rings, thinking it might be someone making an appointment lol.

LOL!! I know what you mean in thinking that it is a potential client!! Within hour of poting my first gumtree ad I had a call and I got all animmated about it - that soon died down as the calls became incessant!!!
