I need some advice please. My 5 year old daughter has a prominant spider naevus mark right on the end of her nose. It's been there for about 3 1/2 years but she's becoming more and more consious of it and today asked me if I could get rid of it.

Would you recommend a visit to the gp because of her age, or should I go to a salon which specialises in red vein removal?

Thanks:hug:

I think i would see a gp first because i think a salon will want a gps approval to do someone so young anyway.
You may also be able to get something done on nhs you never know.

I had the same thing but when I was about 10 I hated it & GP referred me to hospital, was due to have laser on it but as I had a cough on the day the doctor said I couldn't have it done :irked: but I didn't like the hospital experience anyway so never went back & then it just dissapeared somehow !

I would go to GP & see what they suggest, if nothings changed then it will be laser treatment under general anesthetic but this was over 12 years ago so probably different now....

Thanks both for your replies.

I think I'll definately have a word with our gp then next time I'm in there. I've no idea what caused it either.:irked:

I know this is not the same thing but when my daughter was about 3 we were having our nails done (yes both of us:eek: ) and I asked the beauty therapist if she would be able to remove a milia from near the corner of Lucy's eye (with electrolysis.) She said a definite no. She said maybe if she was a teenager...
Anyway, again not the same thing but I had a 13 y.o. girl wanting electrolysis for hair removal so I approached my insurers and they looked into it and said, only if she has started her periods and only with a doctor's letter and parental consent.
So, I think even if the salon / therapist were prepared to do it they would still would need to refer the matter to their insurers but would almost certainly require a doctors note so I guess your GP is your first port of call.
(Lucy's milia cleared up on its own, one day I just noticed it had gone:) )

one of my clients took her 10 year son to the docs about a spider neavus on the bridge of his nose. it may be poss for him to get it done on the NHS, or have it done at a salon, but gp consent would have to be given prior.
when a neavus has been treated by diathermy, the aftercare is stringent, and the procedure, although very quick, is quite uncomfortable (although emla cream can be used prior to numb it).

i would def go and see GP and see what they recommend, and you could always approach a reputable therapist before hand and get a referral letter from them, incase the GP advises this to be ok, then they can sign it there and then!

goodluck:hug:

Please take her to your GP, they will refer her to a skin consultant to have it checked out and the options that are available to you. A salon would have to have GP consent anyway. xx
