Hi everyone - wonder if any of you can help me..... I have a nail client who is constantly in an electric wheel chair due to an ostioperosis type condition. She is going to a wedding in May and has asked me if I would be able to give her a spray tan. I've told her yes I'm sure that'll be fine but I just need to work out a wee plan to make sure she is comfy and that we reach all the bits she wants tanned without damaging her property (I am mobile).

I'm thinking that probably a good idea would be to gently lean her forward, then cover her chair with one of my black towels, and have her support worker and daughter stand behind her with a bath sheet while I tan her very carefully on a light spray setting. Then, let her front dry and then spray her arms, lower legs and upper back (while she leans fwd a little).

Do any of you think this sounds about right or maybe you have some other ideas of how I can make sure she is comfortable, relaxed and pleased with the results?

Thanks so much for your help in advance,
Sharon xx

would a manual tan application not be better?

a lot of brands have mousses tanning solution etc that could be used and may prove easier for you

hth's and good luck it's great to see therapists that really care for their clients

Thanks - I know what you mean - as I was typing the post I was actually thinking that I wish I had had training in manual tanning for this client - however I haven't and she doesn't want to go to a salon. I actually think she wants to have the spray - she's very enthusiastic about it and I am so determined that I work out a way for her. We'll get there with it and thanks for your post and kind comment - its appreciated.

In that case go for it the way you have described, with your care and attention she will be delighted with the result xxxx

Just had a look at your website it's brilliant xxxx

Thanks - that's so kind of you. I totally love my website and feel so pleased when anyone comments on it. :)

Re tan - I use Nouvatan and I'm just thinking that maybe I could actually try her out with their 'Tan In A Can' applied with a mitt. Hmmm.... I'll sleep on it.

Night and thanks again!

I think you will manage just fine, you are obviously putting a lot of thought into it and your client trusts you to have asked you to do this for her.

How does this lady manage when she showers.....can she manage to stand for short periods with support, or does she use a shower chair? My neighbour is in a wheelchair but manages to stand and sometimes walk with a frame in his home, he has a downstairs wet room with grip rails and a shower chair.

Have a good chat with her to establish how she thinks it would be best, and what areas she specifically wants to be sprayed. If she does have a shower room and chair I would be tempted to ask if she would mind us using this and just ensure I allowed myself some extra time to make sure I left things nice and clean.

Hope it goes well, keep us posted on how you get on.

This is just an idea, would it not be easier to tan her in cream? You could lay her on the couch. It might be easier? x

Nouvatan are just bringing out a mousse version of the tan which is another possibility :D

The new Nouvatan mousse would be ideal for this lady you just spray a ball of mousse onto the foam mitt and gently rub it into the skin, give dawn a call,it will be available very soon,I posted more info on the Nouvatan facebook page yesterday :D

I think your approach sounds good, I think if she wants the spray tan then its important to do the spray tan and not manual application.

I have clients with different disabilities and I find that as with all clients I am just open and honest and we work to find out whats best for them.

Have you thought about suggesting a trial tan? Especially when it's a wedding I would suggest this to all clients and then you'll be able to give your wee plan a trial run.

Whatever you do I'm sure it will be fantastic as it sounds like you have a lovely approach for working with people.

Thanks everyone, your comments are helpful.

Steve - I noticed this morning on your FB page about the mousse. It sounds great and I'll talk to Dawn and my lovely client about it.

Thanks have a great day everyone!
