I have never agreed with anything so much in my life! Well said! My great aunt smoked 60 a day for 65 years and died at the age of 97 from natural causes, my mum has cancer and the doctors said to her smoke all you like if smoking caused cancer there would be a cure!!

And for every story like this there are 10 like my Aunty Jenny who died aged 39 leaving three young kids :(

Which is awful but did she die from smoking? There is no definite proof smoking causes cancer, all I am going off is a cancer specialist doctor who has told my mum (a smoker who has cancer) that smoking doesn't cause cancer or there would be a cure my mums friend died of cancer leaving 2 young kids at the age of 28 and she didn't touch a cigarette in her life x

Yes she died from cancer of the oesofagus (?) which is normally only found in smokers..are you really trying to negate years of research by the medical profession and say smoking isn't bad for you?? Did you not read the earlier arrival which proves smokers have more sick days then non smokers? Really that is just denial

This is getting way off topic and very bitchy getting, reformed smokers are a nightmare.

No disrespect but someone with bladder/bowel problems is totally different. Often that is uncontrollable, whereas smoking has at some point been a choice and then led to addiction. I don't know anyone who was born with a smoking addiction, or had children and then developed a smoking addiction, or was in a car accident and developed a smoking addiction from injuries sustained in the accident, but all of those can apply for bladder/bowel, you know?

So if you have bladder / bowels issues as a result of a car accident is that your own fault cause you chose to get into the car. You weren't born in there? Think about what your saying before typing.

This thread really is getting blown out of all proportion. People clearly have very strong opinions and I think we are all going to have to agree to disagree, the common feelings throughout however are that smoking in front of any business premises is unprofessional and the staff caught doing so should be spoken to.

I have said enough on this subject, lets get back to real business threads that actually help our businesses x

Lung cancer is normally found in smokers so how do you justify someone at the age of 28 passing away due to cancer who never touched a cig in her life, I am not in Denali I am going of a DOCTOR I listen to doctors I'm not saying smoking isn't bad for you obviously it's not good but it doesn't cause cancer so the cancer specialist treating my mum says and I believe him

With the e cig you could puff it in the staff toilet or staff room so clients will not see you using it! I've not smoked a normal cig for nearly 6 weeks after terrible bronchitis it does take will power but hearing on news if you stop before 30 (I'm nearly 31) you can healthy again quiet quick so defo worth a try if any ones trying to quit! X

Because we say what you don't want to hear ;) I've not been bitchy or deffencive, I had a bit of banter with someone earlier which was Mis read and now I'm being told that smoking doesn't cause cancer...come back to me in 20 years ;)

Well done you!! I had pleurisy caused by smoking, or so my doctor said, and was off work for 16 weeks coughing up blood and unable to breath..3 weeks later I was back on the fags so if you can keep going then your a stronger person then me xxx

I'm bowing out, loads of denial going on here..not saying your drug addicts but well lol xx

I'm not trying to tell you anything or argue with you I'm just giving my opinion which has come from a cancer specialist everyone has different views on smoking and the causes of cancer, I'm not sayin smoke it's good for you I'm just saying in my opinion it doesn't cause cancer, didn't want to offend anyone

You've not said anything I don't want to hear at all it's just way off topic and to be honest what I choose to do is my business! I have not commented on health issues at all.
I don't think what your saying is banter at all but as I said planets ago agree to disagree!
The point of this thread was concluded pages ago!

Probably time this thread went to bed...

To be honest, if you all kept on topic...which is staff who took advantage of the boss being away to have a smoke outside the shop, then you would all be in agreement.

They done wrong ;)..the boss has found out and asked us how to handle the situation.

The on topic posts say this was out of order for them to do this, and they should be spoken to about it.
An even better post told the boss to be diplomatic, as being too heavy handed may end up in a work to rule by these staff members
The OP/boss has read and no doubt understood this and will get back to us how it all went.
Therefore I shall leave the thread open to hear what happens.

At no time did the OP ask about the rights and wrongs of smoking, whether it causes cancer, or if she would be better employing drug addicts and alcoholics.

SO.....lets get back on track....and while we are at it could you all learn how to use the quote function as I am fed up fixing quote boxes and trying to figure out who is quoting whom :irked: ...please don't discuss this on here just DO IT!

Is it just me or is anyone else craving a ciggie after reading all of this

To the OP, I believe that they were smoking "behind your back" because they do not feel they have set rules for smoking.
Once you impliment a smoking policy, the rules will be clear and you can stick to them.

To the holier than thou's - well done, I and the NHS are truly proud. But I can say myself I have fallen off the smoking wagon many a time and its HARD!

Different strokes for different folks and all. I wont dictate wether or not my staff smoke, just like I wouldnt tell them what nail polish to wear. Thats THEIR life choice, but we have set rules about when and where.

xxxx
