i did a spray tan for a girl tonight. She had never had one done before so i explained the pre-taning instructions to her when she booked up and then again this morning before her tan tonight. I used sienna x 10% on her but under both of her arms are these really dark patches and i have no idea what they are? its a bit of a co-incidence to have dark patches under both arms if it was a mistake made by me? i am wondering if she didnt completely wash off her deoderant or something...has this ever happened to anyone?? i could understand if the patches were white because then that would mean that i had missed under her arm but they are large dark patches - darker than the actual tan itself. anyone know what this could be??

Sounds to me as if there was still some residue of deodorant under her arms. If it is it should wash off when she has her shower x

Did she have the tan tonight? So she has not washed off yet? It will probably be fine when she washes off, I don't spray under the arms as such as you don't natually tan there anyway and you get enough overspray from the arms and sides to give a natural colour there, usually green is the colour you would go for deoderant/perfume so I wouldn't of thought it would be that, dry skin absorbs more of the colour or if she shaved just before she came the pores would still be open and maybe hold more of the colour. I would think she will be fine when she showers tell her to give under her arms a bit of a scrub if need be. hth. Claire

It should wash off and even out after her first shower. It occurs when the skin rubs against itself sometimes and the bronzer rubs off on to the arms.

To try and prevent it again you can dry the underarms after applying the solution and then put talc around the area to absorb sweat and prevent the bronzer rubbing off. Also ask your client to try not to keep her arms tightly against her sides until she has her top back on.

I'm pretty sure it is a deoderant issue. I bet she uses a spray too and that is why it is a larger area (the spray goes further than the armpit)

haha!

I had this problem myself last night! Got the husband to spray me and despite having just had a bath when i showered off this morning my underarms were still very dark.

I have just started to use a deoderant called "Mitchem" I use a roll on but it comes in sprays and not only does it really work but it stays for 48 hours i believe even with a wash!

I should have realised but hey ho, you live and learn!

thanks guys for all your helpful comments, the reason i was so worried is because she is getting married tomorrow!! although i have just received a text from her to say that the tan is great and the dark patches have washed off. PHEWWWWW!!! I can sleep easy tonight! lol :)
