Won't you need a doctor present, for her to administer the shots? Plus be a trained nurse?

An orthodontist is a dentist specialised in orthodontics. A dr of teeth.

I think she meant for the Botox.

Ahhh lol!! :-D

Even for the Botox though, I remember another post on here with someone, I think Cloughers...an orthodontist being a medic can prescribe and inject.

The pictures i have posted r just a few of my long listed amazing clients i did teeth whitening for. This is zero peroxide process with no pain and 20 min treatment time . Not too expensive as well. I did a lot in my salon through a company. I m insured and certified . It is safe for every client that even a dentist came to me to have it done.
Hope it helps
I think one should better do a research and then conclude what is legal and what is not. X

..., with therapists being prosecuted for administering dental work (ie anything that enters the mouth when your not a registered dentist or dental hygienist even you passing it to them to put in their mouth)
Do you not feel scared that you may end up in debt or in fear of bring prosecuted ? ... No offence just a question I wanted to ask ???
I know someone who although she said was going to stop,, but has continued with this treatment... !!!
Mmmmmm .... I don't see any grey area with what iv read ...
Dental work = dentist ... !!!

But that's the point - nobody knows. There are therapists told by teeth whitening companied that theirs is perfectly fine, only to find that they then receive a letter from the GDC saying they will be prosecuted!

You are obviously very confident that there is no legislation stopping you, which is great, but others can't be so sure.

To b honest it was in my salon and at first i was scared and argue a lot but when i saw them doing this so confidently and earning money , i was not left with any doubts y people r going crazy. It is really safe although i just used to have some percent bonus on doin it as i just rented a room. I must say people did feel satisfied and started coming regularly and the owner was really confident as well as it is no per oxide and is just sodium bi carbonate.
Well i dont wrk thr any more as i m mobile now but i m sure people r still amazed and coming regularly !

I don't think anyone is going to save them. Contact one of the admins if you don't know how to do it.

An orthodontist is a dentist specialised in orthodontics. A dr of teeth.

An orthodontist is someone who specialises in badly aligned teeth. Provides braces and treats people with poor bites etc.

They have to qualify as a dentist first

I'm a registered Teeth Whitening Technician and use the LOVELITE system. I'm also fully insured and registered with the ACTWP ( the Association of Cosmetic Teeth Whitening Professionals ). I can't see why an insurance company would insure me if it's illegal!

My understanding is that the GDC have made it 'illegal' as they don't want beauty therapists taking their business (much like a cosmetic surgeon wouldn't want the beauty industry to be able to offer laser lipo). BUT, in line with EU Directive 2005/36/EC it IS legal to perform teeth whitening as a COSMETIC procedure so long as you don't give any dental advice and all products used contain 0.1% peroxide or less. EU law trumps British law!

I spent a lot of money on my training and equipment and am extremely professional. I'd NEVER leave a client on their own ( what if they were uncomfortable, choked or just needed the lamp adjusted?).

It upsets me to see so much conjecture around the subject: surely companies like Lovelite, Megawhite and Diamond Whites would be prosecuted for selling to the beauty industry and not just dentists if this were the case?? It's up to the individual practitioner to make sure they are fully up front about it being a cosmetic beauty treatment and NOT a dental one and use a consent form which states that no dental advice can be given during a treatment. Hope this helps.x

Can I ask you out of curiousity what is your personal motivation for wanting to whiten teeth? Money? You like teeth?
Also it does seem a bit mad that a dental nurse cannot and a beauty therapist can then doesn't it?

Unfortunately it seems to be the beauty therapists that are taken to court.

I'd also be interested if any therapist has ever been sued - did the insurance company pay up?
The reason I ask is because there has been debate on here in the past as to whether or not a therapist is insured to do Brazilians, for example, without the correct training - surely much less of a grey area than teeth whitening, but still a grey area. Every therapist who has done teeth whitening seems to be able to find insurance, but that hasn't stopped them being taken to court by the GDC - and the GDC winning!

Sorry only just come back to this thread. My lady is an Orthodontist, to be one you have to be a dentist first. Dentists are as qualified to inject Botox as Doctors. She has done numerous courses in Botox, fillers, you name it, she's done it. Dentists study facial muscles in depth so are probably more qualified to offer Botox than most people. She is fully qualified and insured and orders the Botox direct on her own account. She is a very ethical person and as I've mentioned before on here, she really is not money orientated. She comes to my salon as and when I get clients who want teeth whitening or Botox. She WILL NOT treat anyone if the treatment is not suitable. She wouldn't even whiten my brother's teeth because she said he had mobility in some teeth and should spend his money on a periodontist rather than teeth whitening. She has also refused to inject Botox into a client who she felt wasn't suitable for the treatment. This is a very refreshing attitude for me and my clients and I've had nothing but excellent feedback from clients about both treatments and all the Botox clients so far have been recommended by other clients. Have a look at the reviews on my website. Www.pearlsbeauty.biz

Have to say I can't see how that EU Directive makes teeth whitening legal. That directive relates to the recognition of professional qualifications from other member states. Indeed it is titled "DIRECTIVE 2005/36/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 7 September 2005 on the recognition of professional qualifications."

And the GDC page on the directive quite clearly starts "Please note that rights conferred by Directive 2004/38/EC do not extend to a substantive right to have professional qualifications recognised." Read full information here.

Though if insurance companies will cover it then surely they should be covering the costs of any actions taken by the GDC. Would be very interested to hear their response on this.

I am tempted to invite a couple of dentist friends to read this thread. But it would surely make them cry

It must be a different law in Australia, here to administer Botox only a trained cosmetic nurse can with having a doctor present. She sounds very thorough, which is refreshing like you said! Goodluck on all future business! Shame I don't live in the UK. :)

MissKiani, an orthodontist is not a nurse. They hold the title of Dr.
