Hi everyone,
:green:
Im really keen on getting into the industry and studying a Level 2 Diploma, been looking at collages and wanted some advise on where to study.

I am in full time employment and therefore looked at studying at The Beauty Academy in London because they have flexible courses.

Has anyone studied there and would you recommend them??

Please can you also tell me whether I should do an NVG if i plan on working for myself. Is a Diploma sufficient enough to get my Insurance and the knowledge i need to practice at home?

Your advise and feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!

Have you given them a call. If not please do and it will put your mind at ease. There is a place for short courses. If they are put together correctly and with all the information you need, small classes and plenty of hands on time, they work. The Beauty Academy do have a very good name. hth.

HI Glenda,

Thank you ever so much for your reply.

I have been pulling my hair out over not knowing where to start, just seem to be going round in circles and affraid to make the wrong move.
I shall give them a call and i trust that they will be able to advise me.

Thanks again!
xxxx

If you are concerned about insurance, call your insurers before you book a course and check whether they will accept the qualification from that school.

Good point. I just pulled this from Beauty Academy web site --

Can I get insurance with The Beauty Academy Diploma?

Yes, all of our courses are recognised by:-

BABTAC
The Guild of Professional Beauty Therapists
Professional Beauty Direct

Excellent, thanks again for your help ladies!!

I have decided to call them today and book myself onto a course.

One more thing which i am unsure about, please can you advise....

They offer a Beauty Specialists Diploma and a NVQ level 2, both covering the exact same courses. Obviously the only difference is that the Level 2 is NVQ which apparently you need if you are going to work in a salon or spa.
Well, i don't intend on doing either so will it be sufficient enough for me to get the Diploma and work from home without an NVQ or City & Guilds qualification?

Thanks!!

x

A diploma is fine for working from home. But just ask them ANY questions you may have they will explain it all very simply. Why dont you write a list of questions before you ring. But dont worry if you have to call them 2 or 3 times they are used to that.

Hi
how did you get on with your decisions?? all of what you have wrote is how im feeling and ive been trying to decide between, The Beauty Academy and Pinks Training Academy, I've been speaking with Coral at the Beauty A, is this the same as you? I am so confused and like you want to complete a course to set up at home. Both schools confirm what we have been told on here, but part of me thinks I should do the NVQ, incase business doesnt boom at home and work in a salon is needed. HELP! I dont think ive slept for weeks. LOL!! good luck with your choices xxxx

Hi,

Hope you dont mind me writing but your thread is exactly what I am battling with at the moment....
Can I ask what you decided?
In desperate need of some course direction

xx

hiya! I'm thinking exactly the same too! but ive seen the open beauty learning programme also based in London which is the full NVQ and alot cheaper than the beauty institute but you get more quals and full kit... really not sure as no one seems to have done it on here!xx

Hiya, did u go for the beauty academy in the end? im looking at doing the week long beginners beauty course but not sure of my options! need a fast track one/flexible! xxx

hi guys
just wondering if anyone has trained with beauty academy? ive done a 3 day course with them but now wondering if i should of done an nvq. i want to be a mobile nail tech but just wondering is a certificate from the beauty academy enough? sooo confused as i wanna make sure iv done the right course and that i can get insurance. i can't really afford to do the nvq just yet, i definately need to practice practice practice what ive learned as 3 days wasnt enough, but just hoping this certificate will be fine n i can go ahead n set up a mobile business once i've practiced loads n got the hang of it. Any advice would be really appreciated, thanks guys! loh also how can i tell if a company is accredited? they could tell u anything on the phone or on their website to look like the bees knees!!!!

the only thing that would concern me would be the amount of days and hours of practical school learning, the nvq is just one day a week for 12 weeks, that sounds like a very little to me but I guess if u are going to work by urself then perhaps it doesnt matter as much as if u were to be employed.

PS. btw i am talking about the thebeautyacademy!

I've just done some training with the beauty academy in Aspley Guise amen they were fab!!

Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using SalonGeek

I did some training with the beauty academy when they had a centre in dartford, kent. as far as i'm asware they dont have this centre any more.
I liked the manicure and pedicure course, and the waxing was also fine. The acrylics course was a complete waste of money though. i have learnt more from you tube. In fact the course didnt teach me anything that i didnt already know how to do just by watching my nail tech do my nails!!
when asked about infils the tutor said 'i dont believe in infils you should remove them and then redo them' this is not at all normal practice and i have since spoken to another tutor who says infils are part of the accredited course!!
Aaaaanyway - that may have been a one off!!

I would highly recommend www.starbeautyschools.co.uk

Vicki is fab, i have done all my further training with her in Dover.

Regarding which courses, I personally dont think the nvq's are worth the money, if you wanted to work in a spa or for someone else in a salon then you may need them, but the short courses will get you insurance and then you just need to be sensible yourself and practice on friends and family for a while before you set yourself loose on the public....

Good Luck x

I doubt the thread starter is coming back to tell us how she got on as she hasn't posted since July 2009 !

I am not sure if you are all now talking about the same training school this thread was initially about now, so as it is 3 years old and out of date I shall close it.
If there is an up to date topic to be discussed best to start a new thread.
