I have just caught this. I didn't see it from the beginning. I have just tuned in where as I can gather, polish has been applied to about 6/7 models, they have had to change out their jeans into beach ware, play with sand castles, etc. It has just gone to the break but when they come back they are going to judge which polish has dried the best.

QUICK DRY ENAMEL TEST

Rimmel 60 Second Polish
2.99
Not too bad
Colour not that dark
Bits of sand stuck to it
For 2.99 not bad
(I thought it was dire)
8/10

Burgois 1 Sec Polish
5.50
DIRE
Application awful
Smudged
Not impressed
(I agree dire)
5/10

L’Oriel Jetset Diamante
4.99
Good
Nice shine (rare with quick set apparently)
(I agree quite good considering)
9/10

Maybelline Express Finish
3.99
Good
Matt finish
(I agree quite good but lost out on points because it was matt finish)

8/10

Avon Speed Dry Nail Enamel
4.99
Disappointing
No depth of colour
Hardly looked as if any colour was there at all
3/10

As I said, I didn't see this feature from the beginning but they did put the models nails through a rigerous test. L'Oriel's was definitely the best but that was probably because it had a shimmer/glitter through it.

Interesting but it would have been better if the tested professional enamels used in nail salons.

Sorry about the layout. I had cut and pasted a table from word but obviously it didn't transfer well. Sorry!

Would have been good to see a professional road test too!

To be honest i think the whole test was a waste of time anyway but spose it'll boost someones sales !

still, it's an ill wind that blows nobody any good! When people see how rubbish these polishes perform they'll be better disposed to professional products professionally applied. I have clients who tell me that they wish they could apply enamel like I can, and I tell them I'm glad they can't else I wouldn't have any clients! (we do have a giggle about that, by the way!)

I didnt see this programme, but I'm glad I didnt by the sounds of it!!!

So let me get this right - they were applying polish, then within a short time asking the testers to change out of jeans, build sandcastles (you know, that common chore we all do every day), and if the polish didnt stay put, its a crap one not worth buying???

The problem is that there are plenty of women who will have watched this and wont think that way. They will just hear "telly says its crap = it must be true" . Well I'm glad they werent testing CND then!

Anyone who has her nails done at my salon, goes out and builds a sancastle, then comes back and complains about the paint job is likely to have her bucket and spade shoved where the sun doesnt shine!

To be honest, they were testing polishes which claimed to be extremely fast drying. They didn't expect the polishes to be pristine after the test runs but I think they were just trying to find out which survived the tests the best.

Ah, I see. Oh well I take it all back then:lol:. Still though, even if it was a fast drying one, who would paint their nails before they intended to build a sandcastle?? I might sit on the beach painting my nails when I go on holiday and see how many stares I get.

Mrs loads of kids and not enough time for herself would. Been there in the past, done that and still wearing the teeshirt. To me it screams something aimed at people who wouldn't have salon treatments, probably cant afford it and wouldn't know what a professional polish was if it walked up to them and said hello. Been there too

hhmmmmm, but would she really though? I mean, I know that busy ladies like the idea of a polish that dries fast, and that they may do many activities after applying the enamel, but is building a sandcastle really one of them? I just think it was a bit of a pointless exercise, they should have picked activities that women are likely to do after painting their nails.

I wouldn't get too hung up about it. It was such a bad advertisement for diy jobs that it is only going to bring us more business if anything.

Well I know I have! I lost count when the boys were small and I thought while they are happy I will just paint my nails, one less thing to do before I go out. Minutes after I'm done some one wants help in the sand pit or getting dressed or what ever else 4 kids under the age of 5 might need

This is very true, however there will always be people out there who will never afford a professional to do their nails, or the products. For them that article might have saved them wasting their money on some of the polishes featured that did even worse than the best one. In their shoes I'd have bought the top performer knowing given an extra few minutes it might have done very well in a 'just got the kids to bed, just enough time to paint them before we leave' scenario.

None of the models they used for the 'test' would be seen dead with nails polished like theirs were
Especially the Borjois one, apparently it's a wide brush and the enamel is applied in one stroke! The model had it everywhere, all over her skin and up her fingers!

Nadine Baggot made me laugh, she was going on about the "three strokes and you're out" rule, ie using only 3 brush strokes to cover the nail, and then she went ahead and did a nail in 4 strokes
Fern pointed it out to her pmsl... She also said that in no way was the test aimed at how chip proof the enamels used were or how long they lasted once applied to the nails.

I don't personally think that any woman who's serious about her nails and her overall look would give any of the enamels they tested the time of day. I watched it purely out of curiosity and because my son shouted me when it came on... None of my clients would use high street enamels, much preferring the professional touch and the longevity of their nail colour :green:

im not being funny...but the programme was a bit of fun! not EVERYONE wants to go to a pro to paint their nails for goodness sakes! How would I and many others have discovered their desire for nails if it werent for experimenting with and buying high street polishes at some point in their lives....a lot of these polishes were probabably once classed as 'professional' brands years ago...gradually making their way to the high street as many things do these days.

Don't get me wrong im not saying that joe bloggs will get polished nails with the longevity and quality of going to a salon...because obviously that's unlikely BUT a lot of the polish brands on the high street aren't THAT bad actually...some are good and some are down right rubbish...I have an array of professional polishes but I will still buy a no.7 one occasionally for myself if i spot a great colour!

Really you should be thanking the high street.....if none of these things were available to buy...there wouldn't be so many people interested in going to a salon and getting a professional manicure or set of enhancements etc...jmho!

I don't know what's wrong with me tghis week but I get a bee in my bonnett left right and center :irked:

Its fine to say no woman serious about their nails and look would use those enamels but until I started my training I was one of the women that did. I have to really pull my head in when friends and family go shopping and show off their latest enamels from Asda/Boots where ever, the bottom line is they cant afford salon services for their nails or to spend out on profesional colours. Very few of them see me often enough to get their nails manicured even for free so I cant even treat them. I know when Stuart was unemployed for a while 4 years ago I had to stop having enhancements for almost a year while the finances caught up and settled. Back to the Boots counters I went. I had no choice.

I do sometimes think we forget that while professional products are best they are not an option for everyone. It doesn't make anyone less serious about how they look for using high street 'promise the world' products, it just means it's all they can afford in many cases. I did the best I could with the little money I had and the time I could spare for my nails and I really did take a lot of pride in how I looked and how my nails looked.
