Hi i hope someone can help me on here, im so glad i found this forum.

I compleated my training with NSI in july this year and have been doing my friends and familys nails and have also gained a few other clients too.

Today was the worst day ive had since i qualified in july.
I have set up a little home based salon in my house as i dont drive.

Anyway a friend off my cousins came to have her nails done today.
She was booked in for 12.00 and turned up at 1.00pm with her new born baby, mum and sister.
after i had made them a cup of tea and they had several **** i finally sat her down around 1.30.
She said she wanted white tips,(she has beautiful nails and i adviced a overlay but she said no) so after prepping i started putting on the tips and they would just not stay on her nails. i did everything i could think of and they were just popping off.
I know your probley thinking the tips were too small but after the first 1 popped off i tried a bigger size and the same thing happened on every nail. i must have been trying for at least an hour to get them to stay on.
i offered to try natural tips but she said no. im not too confident with sculpting yet so only offer that to friends and family at the min.

I could see she was getting impatient, her baby was hungry and she didnt have a bottle so i said "the tips are not staying on if its ok with you i will come to house tomorrow and try again with different tips."
she said thats ok so im going to try again tomorrow.

So im going to apply natural tips with a pink and white overlay but do i still need to blend the tip if im putting white acrylic over it and any ideas why the white tips wouldnt stay on.
I use NSI elation tips with the well area already cut out.

sorry for the long post but this has put me on a real downer today.

It could just be that your glue was cold, if you have a wheat bag, warm it in the micro wave then let your glue bottle sit wrapped in it for a couple of mins to warm up a bit.
Yes you do need to blend the tips but try pre blending them so when you get to the clients home you won't spend so much time faffing about.
Chin up hun it happens to us all:hug:
Oh, to pre blend, just sit down with your file and thin the tips down until you can gently flex them between your finger and thumb, then just apply them as usual.

I was told or i read somewhere (cant remember where i got it from really but its in head so the information must have come from something! :)) that glue needs moisture to set quicker. If the air is dry it wont set. Not sure if central heating could dry out the air or not?

Try putting a glass of water near wear you are working to replace the moisture in the air and see if it helps.

I might be wrong about this and hopefully someone will correct me if i am but it might be worth a go anyway!

Good luck. The lady already sounds a bit of a nightmare so i'm sure that doesnt help your nerves, try not to show it though. Stay positive :)

Thanks for the replys.
I never thought it could be the glue because i did my mums nails before hers and it was fine.

This really got to me yesterday because i can do a really nice set of nails and i looked so unproffessional yesterday while trying to get the tips to stay on and i did start to panick a little, I suppose having half her family sat watching me didnt help much.
In a way im glad i didnt get a far as applying acrylic to her nails and would not have wanted a new born baby in the room at that time because of the fumes, so i would have had to ask her mother take the baby somewhere else, which would have probley been my living room.

Im going round to her house 3.00 pm to try again and im really scared incase the same thing happens again. but ill try my best and hopefully will have no problems this time.

I was just doing a search on here and came across your thread.....I had exactly the same problem last night with a client, I was using CND performance tips and clear gelbond (brand new) and the tips just would not adhere to the nail. Like you, I felt quite unprofessional at something which should have been so straight forward. I'm sure there's something about gelbond and moisture (if I remember rightly, we're NOT to scrubfresh just before applying the tip as it won't stick) Correct me if I'm wrong geeks

Good luck for today, let us know how you get on with it x

How can ANY nail technician live without a bottle of adhesive activator in case of an emergency like this?

All sorts of things have an affect on nail adhesive from excess moisture to heat to cold AND if the technician moves the tip around while the adhesive is setting!!

Rocking the tip or trying to reposition it also has a detrimental effect on the tip making a good bond with the nail. Place you tip and hold it in place with nice firm pressure (Firm pressure helps to dry the adhesive) you should see the end of the finger turn white with the pressure as you are holding the tip firmly in place ... if you don't then you are not pressing the tip on firmly enough.

When you have one of these nightmare moments hold your tip in place for twice the amount of time or relax and use a spritz of resin activator which makes the whole job super easy and doesn't make you look like you don't know what you are doing.

I have this problem on my 4th finger on both my hands because i have slightly bitten nails, the skin is level with the nail so it just doesn't stick nomatter what i do!!

If the skin at the end of your finger is pushing the tip up and off the surface then you have to tailor the sides of the tip to accommodate the slightly bulbous end of your finger (by removing some off the sides - not the well area) and then you will not have a problem. There is a tutorial on how to do this technique which is called saddling the tip.

I have heard that there are some who have had an issue with gelbond. Maybe switching to a regular resin adhesive (Backscratcher's is one of the best) might solve a lot of the problems. Been using it for over 10 years and have never had a problem with the tips not adhereing during application process. And you don't have to worry about whethere it's hot or cold. The only problem you might have is if you use too much resin, so just enough to cover the tip is all you need.

Hi leesa.
I have the elation clear tips, and I cannot get them to stick for the life of me.

I never have any problems with any other brand Ive tried. So ive ended up using them as display tips.

Hi I try not to do tips anymore I love sculpting, but last week did a set of tips as they wanted tips, even tho I explained the benefits of sculpts, and I had the same problem you are explaining I was using gelbond which I have never had a problem with before, so just held on a little longer Good Luck when you go back :)

Gel Bond is not a fast set adhesive which is why students and pros alike love it as you have time to perfectly position it on the nail, However what goes along with a slower setting adhesive is that you need to hold it in place a bit longer for it to set. Those are not 'issues' but knowing how the product works and working with it.

In the UK Gel Bond is the number one selling adhesive for CND and is a fantastic tool for any nail technician particularly for the clients with bitten nails and for those who want to ensure perfect tip positioning.

Well i went back yesterday and everything went fine. Thankgod

I was teriffied about going back and was so nervous. but the nails looked beautiful when i had finished.

She didnt understand how i was going to make the natural tips white and kept reminding me she wants white tips. lol.

In the end she was very pleased with her nails and her mum and sister have made appoinments with me for monday for a new years eve party there going to.:)

So what started out as a nightmare and knocked my confidence in a big way has turned out good in the end.

Also i dont use gel bond i use NSI adhesive. I might try some though, is it only CND that sells it?

Yes it is only CND who sell it .. but it is pretty easy to ring 08452106060 and register as a customer to purchase it. They will require proof of your certificate of training.
