Just wondering what you guys do when going for a beauty treatment. Do you tell the therapist that you are also a therapist?

I never know if it's best to tell them or say nothing.

Do you get a not so good treatment by not telling them?
Or would you get a better treatment if you told them?

I'm really not sure. What do you geeks do?

I dont tell them unless they ask. because I feel that it may make them feel uneasy and also I go for a treatment to pamper myself. The things i NEED to have done (waxing, spray tan facials etc) are done by my business partner , so i am lucky that way. when i get asked during my consultation (or if i get asked) I do tell them though.

I do though seem to be doing a few nail sets for nail techs. I have 4 as clients. I dont mind doing them , I dont treat them any differently, I give them the same aftercare advice etc but i know a couple are passing off my nails as their own work . Which i find a compliment I suppose. I do my own nails, so that should anyone compliemnt me on them, I can give them my business card with confidence.

Last time I had a treatment at a spa I told the therapist I was an estate agent as I just wanted to relax and not talk shop. Then to make it more authentic I told her how much value she had added to her house as she'd just had a new conservatory built. I really got ino the role and almost convinced myself.

erm..well...I'm a bit of one of those clients you want to tie their hands together ( and gag me) :green:
If I go somewere new for a haircut and I feel that it isn't going as well as I want to or if I'm being fobed off in any way, I will slip it into the conversation that I've been a hairdresser for over 20 yrs.
Naughty? yes... but it works

It very much depends on how I am feeling at the time! If I feel like just relaxing and getting on with it I don't mention it and sometimes I am going for a touch of industrial espionage anyway  so I definately don't mention it but other times I do - it depends on my mood on the day and at the time.

I'm a funny one me! Lx:lol:

What i think is if i was to tell a beauty therapist when im having a treatment that im a beauty therapist myself i think they will do a better job than usual - Im thinking this because they know you will/may compare and i think they wouldnt want you to think your better than them, if that makes any sense?x

I don't think I would bother telling them personally. I would look for a good therapist who would give me the same treatment as everyone else.

I always plan on keeping my mouth shut...but because beauty is my life and I could talk about it all day every day, I always end up admitting I'm a therapist!! I can't help myself!!!
Someone should invent a treatment where the client it gagged! That's about the only way I would prevent myself from slipping up!!!

Ive done both. I went for a full body massage and facial and didnt tell the therapist I was a beauty therapist. The treatment was awful! I was taken 10 mins late and the treatment finished 15 minutes early. She asked if I had had a massage done before, I said no (I do aromatherapy and swedish massage) It was a half baked massage. I then said I had a facial done before so this was a little better. I dont know if it was because she knew I knew what to expect. Needless to say, I didnt go back, and they are now out of business!

Another salon I went to, I said I was a therapist, and the treatment was great! So that taught me a lesson. Always tell! You will find you probably recieve a better treatment.

The last "research treatment" i went for was a hot stone therapy. The therapist asked me if i have had a hot stone massage before, i said yes (i do them myself) and this was all the consultation i received - i could have had high blood presssure or anything.
