i was just wondering if any one out there is having the same problem, i live on a small island and we were the first salon to do minx, now within the past couple of months 7 other salons have all jumped on the band wagon and i just feel its not as exclusive, all salons are within minutes of each other and came in and have there minx with me since they started doing them themselves..... its so frustrating, is there no way you can make it exclusive to maybe just a few salons within a certain area????

I apologise if I offend you in advance, but would you like it if sweet squared wouldn't sell it to you because too many people are doing it? NO!! I don't think so...It's just one of those things.

Are you serious?
Competition is positive.

There is always going to be competition you just have to make sure you do it best.

Remember its also about YOU....people will come to you over someone else for the same treatment if they feel easier with you...like what you have to offer...the professional attitude....friendly....Its the whole package people want.

You'll be fine.

Hi Daisyboo
I was worried about this too then I thought, well, clients come not only because of WHAT we do, but HOW we do it and at the end of the day that's all there is to it! A professional treatment carried out by people whom they can count on to do a great job, be treated like they are the most important person in the world and leave feeling like they are the bees knees!!!!! I think as long as you do your treatments the way YOU like them done, Take the time to do them the BEST and why would they want to go to anyone else!! I have a new motto -" do your best & don't stress!"
ok so maybe I make a treatment 5 or 10 mins longer, just means they feel more pampered and you can be calm, at least they get a great treatment rather than up the road maybe squeeeeezing them all in for££ rather than care...in the end, they know where is best to come back to. Hope this helps x

Well, I cant see how anyone could ever expect any company to restrict who it sells to based purely on location. you need to find something that makes your salon and you special. Its called a Unique Selling Point. (USP) . give your clients a reason to come to you and not to the others. Competition in every form and guise is a way of life im afraid.

Be creative in how you market yourself and how you offer your clients the best and dont worry about others . concentrate on your business and entice those customers through YOUR door.

Sorry geeks i totally agree with daisyboo! i live in a tiny little town in which i have a nail bar within a hair salon i went along to train with bio sculpture which was fantastic i was the first within 40 miles to offer this product already 10 months later another 2 girls.... who aren't even nail technicians yet! have jumped on the band wagon!
Dermalogica offer you to become a dermalogica salon and there wont be another salon the same within a ten mile radius!! I think elemis are the same too.
In my town there simply isnt enough nail clients to share about the advantage being i set up a year before all these and had already done one year previous with acrylic etc. I just think too many people are thinking and calling themselves nail technicians after 2 days of training with a company.
Like jil said if you spend that extra 10-15 mins more making sure everything is perfect they come back again and again I have had there clients come to me! its all about your reputation you have to keep it to your highest standard and be known as the best!! My clients all joke that i'm a perfectionist best way to be! I am considering minx altho i'm also thinking is this going to be a waste of time its cheap to stock in your salon and you dont need training where as bio sculpture is expensive to learn as well as you need to attend training and exam etc which makes it more difficult for people to do! I know a month afterwards someone else will be minxing too!

the unfair competition if not always very good, since not only the customer can have variety to choose the best job, so the freedom to choose a good heart but this one endorsed by side, greetings:confused:

I'm on a small island in the UK aswell and I have to say I'm not finding the competition for Minx a problem.
I'm getting clients seeing it on the menu and saying 'oh you do Minx, so nd so salon does those as well, arn't they fab'...this saves me time explaining what it is and 'persuasion' time as they all ready know how fab it is and want it.
So baisicly the competition is working to my advantage.

Yes...being unique and of course a perfectionist puts you above all the rest! I give my clients my "undivided attention" and with every service they receive a hand treatment or an ultimate hand and arm massage. Some clients are even willing to pay me to squeeze them in just for the massage, nothing else. My clients are not interrupted by me answering a phone call (emergencies dont' count) or talking with other employees. They book their time with me and they know they would never get that in a "discount" salon. I speak their language, theres never a surprise extra cost, and they know they get high quality treatment! That you can't put a price tag on!! About 10 yrs ago I made up a survey asking what each client looked for in a professional nail technician and salon, what they would like to see, etc. and handed them to my clients, when they filled them out I gave them 10%off their next service and also gave them 50% off for a referral. If that client booked a standing appointment with me, my client that referred her gets 20% each time she comes in, the more she referred the more percentage off she gets. I now do her nails for free because she has sent me 10+ standing appointment referrals. She wants to continue to have free services so she's going to be sure that they stay with me or will replace any of her referrals that leave with another. You have to give to receive in this business. Invest in your business and you'll get twice the return!! Good Luck!!!

This may have been the case years ago with Dermalogica, but is no longer. One of our long-standing salon clients opened her own place in competition with us 18 months ago - 4 doors away - and Dermalogica allowed her to open an account. We were spending 6-7k with Dermalogica and had been for a few years, this made no difference to their decision and I was pretty annoyed at the time.

C'est la vie!

There was a slight negative difference to our Dermalogica income for about 6 months then we won back any clients who had moved to them even though we did nothing to do so. They were obviously not giving the clients the service that we give, they closed down a couple of months ago!

Give more than your client expects, always!!!!!!!! and all ways!!!!!!

Absolutely!!

Make yourself stand out from the rest by offering a twist. MAke sure every client is walking out your door happy and booked in for her next appointment.

I've just received an order from CND and received some freebies...These will be given to my clients. As they are not expecting them it make it all the more special. Make them feel special and treat them that way.

I've just received my Minx kit and still practising making sure that every application is 'bang on'. Definately going to give the french Minx a try too!!

thanks for all your replies, i can see what your saying and its true! i think competition only make you better but its the fact that there is people out there not properly trained giving it a bad reputation! one of my clients was stopped in town and the lady said "o you have minx!" my lady replied yes i love it its been on for 7 weeks now and i go back every 8 weeks and never had a problem. the other lady replied saying she had hers done at a salon 2 minutes around the corner from me and it came off within 2 days!!! she tried to complain and they told her it was her fault and it must of been something she had done. this is not the first time i have heard this from that salon. i just think its wrong for them to be working within such a great name Minx and giving it such a poor reputation.

Of course, this is the problem with any commercial product - especially one that's low cost and easy for anyone (not even a nail tech) to apply. Minx is only "exclusive" while not many salons sell it - as soon as the few celebs that do wear it see it's popular with the masses they will drop it like a hot stone.

Actually, what we have noticed in several USA celeb type magazines is that real nail art seems to be getting in vogue. The difference is that each design is unique and to be moderately good requires the nail tech several hundred hours of practice - far too much effort for most - which gives it even more exclusivity.

I'm not dissing Minx specifically - it's a good product. But don't think it will make your salon or service look exclusive or unique - any other salon can but it and get it on a next day service. For any company to appear unique requires a lot more effort.

I don't think I would be worried about other salons doing Minx. Its not about salons jumping on the band wagon. You cant really expect it to be made exclusive when there are treatments such as facials etc that all salons do aswell.

I would be concentrating on making your service different to other salons to get clients to come to YOU. Maybe offer them a freebie or something.
Competition is a good thing. If you see it as negative then you have problems on your hands
