Hi there i am a mobile nail tech just started out and trying to get out there in the big wide world, i have a few clients which are returning ones but i was just wondering what your views were about me getting a tooth gem kit? Is it worth it? I am only trained in acrylic nails (i will be doing more training but want to concentrate on acrylic for now) and i thought this is another service i could offer? Or if you have any other ideas i would really appreciate it. I live in the Liverpool area and am looking for an affordable company who trains in manicure/pedicures so that would be another service to my list.

Thanks kelly

from my experience i wouldn't sped your money on a tooth gem kit, they used to be populer but i think we've had one in the last 6months. i would save your money and put it towards a mani and pedi course to be honest. HTH xx

Im also wanting to do SmileGems when i qaulify for my nails first. They sell the kits at ellisons in a meduim or large kit. It looks worth it to me. xx

Oh i didnt realise they wern't that popular at the minute :-(

I used to do them and it's quite expensive to set up and not a job I personally enjoyed.
Once I made my money back I sold the kit tbh.
Was quite popular with teenagers...but unless you like having to go inside peoples mouths and smell their breath don't bother.
I never did want to be a dentist:lol:

LOL

well from a client's point of view, those kits you buy usually allow you to keep the gem for a few months, so it ain't even tat worth it.

whereas having it done by a spec, you can keep it for years, so I know what I would choose.

I remember when the tooth gems were really popular. Many a night as a kid trying to apply one badly
I think they can look pretty but not as popular now, and I'm not sure having one that lasted years would be so sparkly after all that time.

Maybe ask a few of your clients if they would be interested or not :)

it is still that sparkly instead.
she's a tech in my demo team, she's worn it for years, but it is a real diamond.

Well if you can afford it a real diamond in your tooth!! :)

it was taken from the ring her ex had given her when he proposed (don't know the name of that ring...)

Ah an engagement ring, I hope she gave him a massive sparkly smile once she had it fitted

ooh I don't know...

she just told us about where she'd gotten her diamond from because we were wondering if we should stock these kits too. and she told us she'd had it for 9yrs... (yeah) but again, if I remember well the process, the guy kinda makde a little hole in her tooth, matching the size of the stone, and then used a special glue for it, etc.

I stuck a 9k gold star on my tooth when I started doing them as a way of advertising. It worked and I thought it looked ok until I saw myself on a photo....it looked like I had a rotten tooth and it took me ages to get the bugger off. Had to visit the dentist in the end hmmm

i think it depends on you clients and area if they are popular or not i do them, i find wearing one really helps sell them to. I always have the rainbow crystel on as i think it is the nices one. As i have said in an other post, they can last upto a year or so it all depends on clients saliva in their mouth and how they look after their teeth but i love doing them, they are quick and easy and great proffit go for it i say xx

I had one in for ages, lost it eating crusty bread  was going to have it replace. But havent bothered. x
